You could check out SwiftTalk, But the best thing to do is buy a torque wrench and check them before you set off...

My colleagues caravan is a Hymer van also on a also chassis, the van was only 3 days old when the wheel came off having done 500km.
Does anyone have anything in writing ref bailey/also recall

If you mean the wheel nuts came off, it sounds like the wheel had not been torqued up before it left the dealers. Dunno about Holland but the workshop 'get out' clause in the UK is that wheels should be retorqued after 60miles. If the owner had checked his wheel nuts after the first days towing he probably would not have lost the wheel. I'm guessing human error here not a fault with caravan.
Although its best to use a torque wrench theres no harm in just checking nuts with a good wheel brace.
Or do you mean the whole wheel came off complete with hub? Iirc this is what happened with the new Swift owner that was posted on here a few yrs ago.

He checked the wheels before he set off, The wheel actually came off on the 1st day.
He picked the van up on wednesday and set off on holiday on saturday, by 1 oclock he'd lost a wheel.

The Swift wheel issue was that the whole hub detached, the issue with the Bailey was that the wheel nuts came off & just the wheel detached. Do you know what happened in this case?

If you can find anything on the internet about the Bailey wheel recall & send it to your friend it might help him if Hymer & the supplying dealer are denying responsibility. Its quite possible wheels & nuts of both Hymer & Bailey come from same manufacturer. I think Al-Ko only supply chassis/axle/hubs, not the wheels though.

I have the Valencia model. A letter was sent to me from Bailey on 4 May 2011 advising that following wheel detachment on a "small number" of Unicorn range caravans they were investigating the cause.Meanwhile they advised torque settings annd regular checks.
Later in the year about August Bailey announced a recall and different wheel nuts were fitted. I recall that The NCC and Bristol university were involved. There was also a statement on the Bailey web site but I doubt it is still there.I think a reason given was the high weight of this model range.
I dont think it was an Alko issue.
There was a small statement in the Caravan Club magazine at some stage.------------- Mister G

Unicorn mk 1 models use the heavy weight Alko chassis rather than the standard one, not sure how different they are------------- All year Dorset!!!
