I have been living at my bungalow for about 5 years now.
Its a cul-de-sac and there are a couple of dozen homes in the road.
My problem is my opposite neighbour he just hates caravans.
I have a storage space on a farm because there is no room on my drive t o store the van. My last van break was October last year. I emptied the van of food and clothing and cleaned in and out as we all do. My neighbour came over to me and said he hates caravans and doesn't want me to put the van half on path and road if I do it again he will get it removed. My start of the season starts by cleaning the outside including a polish (1 day). Next is emptying the inside clean, polish and vacuum (1 Day) Service engineer to service the van (1 day). Reload the van ready to go on a break or take back to storage. We have a community bobby and wonder whether he is pro/con caravans. I really cannot wash the van, vacuum or load unload on the storage site. The van is being serviced in March and expect some problems.
Has anyone had similar and what did you do.
Thanks

At a guess if theres no road markings then you can park wherever you want, in which case i'd call his bluff and say "fair enough" if he threatens to tell on you. Its a shame but lifes too short to worry about stuff like that. Any personal threats, call the cops.

Call into your local cop shop & ask advice. They may say you can’t block the path but you can park the caravan on the road (or whatever). If Mr Nasty comes over, just say you’ve checked but he’s welcome to call the police. And politely advise him that it’ll be there for x days and then it’ll be away until this time next year.

With marg6 but the law states vehicles cannot be parked on the pavement, but if you are 100% on the road and not blocking anything or anybody he can go and boil his head. Fion W has a good suggestion by popping into your local police station and asking for advise.

So long as your caravan is parked legally and is roadworthy, his likes and opinions are of no consequence, BUT his attitude and threats to you are Harassment, which is illegal! Keep a diary of his approaches and details of his threats, quote them to him and inform him that you are keeping a record and will report HIM to the police!

Hi All
Its a little bit funny in a way.
He is in his early 80s and I am 66 he is a bit of a bully.
Ever since I was at school I have never been bullied nor have i ever bullied
anyone. The guy lost his wife a few years ago and every weekend he gets in his car and drives to the cemetery and tends her Grave. Can I point out he is partially sighted and should not be driving. However i feel sorry for him. Over the years he has made a name for himself as being a bit of a trouble maker. He has to go to the hospital once a month and had people take him. That has stopped and he gets a taxi now. I am not working and have thought about taking him to the hospital but for the way he has spoken to me he can bugger off.
Before the Covid attack my wife who has multiple health problems developed a serious lung disorder while we were away and was taken to hospital and ended up with pneumonia and spent a week in hospital.
I couldn't believe it, he told me to move the van even though I explained the emergency.
Chris

If he only partially sighted and still driving I would report him double-quick, not to be vindictive (althugh that would be a bonus!), but because he could easily kill or seriously injure someone when behind the wheel.

If he no longer had a car you could then politely ask him if you can leave your caravan on his driveway so he doesn`t have to look at it in front of your house.

And yes, I am going to hell.......

There is no law that says the partially sighted can't drive.

If the caravan is on a roadway I am sure that by law it needs to display lights at night. maybe others can confirm? However he cannot stop you parking the caravan on the road as he is not an officer of law.
I would go into the police station and ask their advice and ask the constable to make a note of his complaint due to his threats. If the caravan gets vandalised or torched somehow while it is parked outside your home, guess where the police will be looking first. Even better if you have CCTC covering the caravan.
BTW we also have a very problematic neighbour so well versed in that aspect, but we have never brought our caravan home for various reasons and we also live in a cul de sac.

Ask him if he has told his insurers and DVLA that he is partially sighted.
If not he will be uninsured so the police would not be amused.

I would write to the highways department of your local council first, explain your dilemma and find out how you stand legally and any advice they can offer in dealing with the matter. That's the first step to take as you need to be on the right side of the law in which case it could be considered that your are being a victim of anti-social behaviour which then I would assume that both the council and Police would be involved. This is the right procedure to follow because if you approach the Police alone without any council involvement they will proceed via a verbal engagement which will just get recorded in the hope that the matter doesn't escalate in the future.
