Can someone help. I'm thinking of changing my rooflight for a mini heki. Has anyone done this as DIY and how straightforward is it? Or should I leave it to my dealer.
We had one added to the loo of our new 'van - dealer charged about 60 quid so I don't think it is worth doing it yourself - let someone else have the hassle!

As an aside, I was recently reading all about buying second hand caravans. One of the articles I read that was on either the CC or C and CC sites was about surveys of caravan faults. The incidence of water ingress has shot up since these big rooflights started to be fitted by manufacturers.
Hi Jon , i fitted an omnivent to my caravan , it was fairly straight forward to do and i would say that the average diy'er could tackle this job , a heiki roof light should be the same or a bit easier to do , to remove old mastic use a plastic scrapper and then a rag with white spirit on it . I myself recommend W4 roll mastic for sealing the new roof vent in place , make sure you get the vent square when you lower it into place , as once the roll mastic has made contact with the roof it will be very hard to remove . Have a look at the post i did on my omnivent note my last post , i realised i hadn't closed the vent properly hence the reason i got some water coming in .
I just fitted Mini Heki quite straightforward really the hardest part is removing the old mastic I used hair dryer and scraper then meths and white spirit ,but, the best was sticky stuff remover bought from Betterwear catologue . this rooflight purchased from www.thecaravanshop.co.uk for £79 inc del and fast arrived next morning I also bought tube of Sikaflex 512 same place,to fix rooflight permanently. The Heki has made a hell of a difference and in conjunction with the large one already fitted makes a very light and airy caravan .We are very pleased with the result. And in posting may I recommend the above firm for very good service.
Crikes. I didin't expect another answer to this post from a few years ago. problem solved now cos I bought another van with a bloomin great huge Heki in it. may at some point put another mini heki in , but not high on my priorities at the mo.
