we have just acquired a lovely little 2 berth eldiss vogue whirlwind se ,a 1998 model ,got it for £750 as it had accident damage to a rear panel which i have now managed to repair myself ( had loads of caravans ,boats etc ) over the years and a competent diy person .
the van has had lots of new equipment fitted/or left in by the previous owner i.e alko hitch plus lock ,new waste master and aqua roll ,tyron bands fitted all round plus lots of other bits ,its in stunning condition internally with everything in working order .
now the question is this ,is it worth insuring given the actual cost and its a 14 year old van ,and if so what company to use as i won't pay excessive premiums for something they would class as uneconomical to repair or replace .the mind boggles HELP
hi,not your caravan to worry about with insuance.ie if it runs down hill a bashes another caravan it will cost you lots of money.your car insurance will cover you when on tow but will not pay for your caravan repair.when we first got our van the back end caught the wing of a car on a sharp bend and it cost a £1000 to repair the wing.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Insurance is not only for damage done to your caravan or for things stolen or whatever, it's also for any damage your caravan does to someone else's property.
My caravan was a 1996 2-berth and it cost me about £69 with the Camping & Caravanning Club. If you're not with a club, try Adrian Flux, their rates are very good.
Do you insure your telly valued at probably less than £750, maybe about that figure? Why not a caravan? Then there are the contents.

We have a 1991 Abi Award Globestar and always insurane as other have said its not just losing your caravan but the contents and also the risk of your caravan causing damage to others.
Try looking at ebay and seeing how much it would cost you to replace your van it might shock you. , I keep a record of the sales for mine at around this time of yeart to give me an insurance value.
We insure ours with the caravan club £56 this year.
