We were on the M40 last Saturday at around Junction 11 doing about 60 and heard a funny noise coming from the caravan. Pulled over on to the hard shoulder and stopped, then a terrible smell of burning rubber. Offside tyre had burst but was intact due to Tyron bands. Called the breakdown company out - too dangerous to swap wheel myself on my way before the hour was up. 25 miles from site was told to re torque my wheel after 20 miles. I did this and was surprised that the torque figures had changed.

I agree....however these threads tend to include folk who will tell you that Tyron Bands are a waste of time and money.....so watch this space.....

Thanks for that you have confirmed what intend to do in the not too distant future.
I was advised by our tyre fitter at work to change to these, he said the damage that a blow out will do to the c/van on an ordinary tyre would cost way way more than the tyron bands.
NOTE....
He did say though make sure that you get the removal tool and keep it on you when travelling (he described it as a large allen key) because he said if someone comes to change the wheel/tyre they will just cut it off and it can't be used again.
I am sure they work. However returning from France on the toll Road I had a blow out at 60MPH whist in cruise control. A large piece ot tyre had gone and it ripped through the top of the tyre. It did not leave the rim and did no damage to the van. If i knew how to do it I would post a photo.
