Currently on site bought a tech wood tv from Morrissons couldn't get a signal to set it up despite trying all sorts so rang dealer who said where did you get the tv from? Ah you won't too much interference in the caravan especially a twin axle fleet wood heritage!!!! The only way you may get it working is an aerial attached to the outside like an house one! Sounds like I have to get an Avtex. What's your thoughts?

Sounds like a load of bull to me. What type of aerial are you using? I take it you have a status aerial or something like that. You will struggle to get a signal using an "indoor" aerial in a caravan as the aluminium skin will shield the signal but any kind of out door aerial should be fine. Check on the freeview website (www.freeview.co.uk/switchover) to see what the coverage is like in your area.

Yes I believe it's a status 530 standard on a Heritage. I think he was saying an aerial on the outside. I only rushed out to get one to be ready for the euros at the end of the week. I had been considering one with built it sat receiver to future proof it little and have the option of perhaps using a dish to ensure as best I can a signal!!!!

It could be the aerial lead we had that I made a new one up and it worked fine

Are you using a signal strength meter to align the aerial before you try and tune the TV in?, with digital TV it is more "on\off" than analogue used to be and needs to be aligned first before you try and tune in.

Yes there are two switches not sure what the other one does so tried it both ways. I have tried it from different aerial points in the van. From the actual amplifier box direct. I have only guessed the direction of the aerial but have gone by everyone else. I have used different leads. How good are the status 530s?

Haven't used it much, but did get excellent picture quality from our cheap nasty digibox when we did use it.

We have always done well with our 530 but use a signal meter like this to align the aerial. The latest status aerials have a built in meter.  Also the aerial can be horizontally or vertically aligned to match the transmitter.

I used to have a Techwood. It kept loosing signal on digital tv and had a fairly high power consumption for its size. Its now relegated to my home office and connected to a sat dish and humax freeview box and works ok. For the caravan I use a 22" Kogan tv anb that has been great. It even picks up signals from the masts further away and therfore enables me to get a better rage of channels than many of the local relay masts offer. It alos works on 12V and has a low power consumption of just over 20W when in use.

The amplifier or sometimes called a power pack has two switches which is indicated as [ On - Off ] and [ LOW - NML ]. The one turns the amplifier on (when the red light illuminates) and the other means low and normal which when switched to low reduces the strength of signal. This is used when you are too near to the receiving mast and the signal is going over the top and beyond so what this switch does is to reduce the amplification and pull the signal down basically. Try switching the [ LOW - NML ] switch and see if it makes any difference when setting up.

This worked ok with Analogue but with Digital I recommend you use a meter to lock on to the signal.

I have a cheapo Alba from Argos and get an excellent picture. I have the flying saucer on the roof (not turnable) and have to use the booster switch. Just auto tune the TV on day one. End of story. I get about 15 channels. I can't be bothered with setting up aerials etc and can live without sky 1 etc.

I have a status directional and a Kogan 19" I look at what position other people have their aerials check it with my signal checker switch on the tv select auto-search, then make a cup of tea and sit down to 100+ channels including radio. However last weekend I did as above but spend ages trying to get a signal. I found out that when I last put the Tv away and roll the aerial cable up which I have done dozens of times I must of broken the cable in side.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help but still couldn't get it going. Perhaps the dealer was right!!
Took the tv back and have just ordered a 19" cello with DVD, sat receiver and 65 cm dish set. Hopefully got all bases covered now. Get it Thursday and then the fun begins.
