Hi, Our pup is almost a year old.He is a beardie, so VERY active.As with most dogs, hates being tied up outside awning.We have bought a length of chain to solve the problem of chewed rope and no dog to be seen..but he also chewed through all the guy ropes on awnings! ..well hey guess he was bored! thats the downside for dogs isnt it.any ideas anyone please?
Bless, he'll grow out of it in the end, but in the meantime, do you give him bones, those big dinosaur legs or postmans legs are ideal for keeping them busy and they dont splinter ( make sure they are not the cooked) and if he's still teething a bit they will ease the pain he's got. Promise you he will grow out of it, just got to find something he enjoys chewing more right now.

i used this method i just slipped the ropes through the copper tube b4 i pegged it down worked a treat never used a muzzle i wouldnt like it myself so i dont do it to the dog :)
We have a 2 year old black Labrador which we've always taken in the caravan. I was very keen to take him training as soon as he was old enough and it's paid dividends, he'll lie outside the caravan without being tethered and will not bother anybody. Does the dog get enough exercise? I always make sure mine has at least 2 long walks. I take it if he's chewing outside then he's outside on his own, might be worth giving him alternatives to chew on, we give ours hide chews which also are good for his teeth

Much as I admire your confidence in your dog staying outside your van while off the lead, I wonder how many other caravanners feel safe or content about your arrangements.
I have two dogs and they are always kept on a lead unless in our own well fenced garden at home or inside the secured environment of our unit when on the campsite.
Most campsites have a very clear policy of all dogs being on leads at all times and I would expect all of us to respect those rules.
If I saw someone diobeying such a ruling, I would be reporting them and I would expect the Warden to take action immediately.
Your dogs are kept on a lead for my safety and reassurance, not for your ego.
I'm with Lobey on this, our dogs are either in the caravan or on leads no ifs no buts.
Yes dogs might be well trained but they are still dogs. Many sites are on or near farms, do people realise farmers have the right to shoot dogs if they are worrying their live stock.
Also could you be sure that no one comes up and say pokes the dog in the eye what the dog would do?
I dont mean to be unkind but dogs should be on leads when at campsites.

If i had a dog that i thought you should be worried about i wouldn't be as stupid as to leave him on its own and don't assume i would be.
Tell me what's worse, an untrained dog barking on an end of a leash or one that only sits outside when i do and is monitored the entire time? We only use CC sites and i've never had an issue so don't assume i do it to stroke my ego
I'm sorry I don't care how well trained the dog is, it should be on a lead when on a campsite and the end of the day a dog is still an animal capable of harm.
Yes a untrained dog barking is bad too.
Our dogs are trained and would sit out not on a lead no issues at all, they come on comand etc, but still they are on a lead for my own peace of mind, for dogs safety, others safety and because that is the rules on most campsites and from memory on CC club sites too.
Site rules are there for everyone's safety and comfort, people wouldn't like it campers broke the no noise rule at 3 am, what's the difference?

He is on the lead if i walk around the site with him. The thing is we never holiday during school holidays because we'd rather listen to 10 dogs barking than half a dozen kids on scooters, we always choose a pitch which is suitable for us and the dog and he's always with one of us, never left outside unattended or stuck in the awning otherwise we may as well not have bought him.
At the end of the day if somebody reported me because I'm sat outside with a dog that's lying down and not on a lead and he's not bothered them at all then they need to take a look at theirselves
