I know you will all have your own opinions and experiences of these clubs but i dont want to write one off.....however reading on there site the caravan and camping club seems to offer more for less......Is this right....
Looking to join one !! ANy feedback would be most welcome on both these clubs
I'm a member of both and have been for years as it gives a greater choice of sites. In my experience the CCC are more family orientated whilst the CC appear to be more for retired folk especially ones with motor homes !.
The CCC are certainly cheaper but their sites are not up to the same standard as the CC, Remember all that tents damage the grass and I think for that reason tents are not allowed on some of the CC sites.
Everyone has their own view, we have been happy with the CC. Initially joined as friends had and we wanted to go away with them, we had a folding camper at first, then got our 'van. The CC sites are very nice, with excellent facilities. Am sure C&CC just as good. You could join both for a year, then ditch one of them next year?
For the record, we are not retired! 2 kids, 2 dogs, oldish 'van.
Caravan Club (CC) has about 220 of it's own sites with about half open to members only and over 2500Cl's ( small 5 five van independant sites of variable standard licensed by the club for members only ) , the standard of it's sites is consistently high over the whole network, it provides every service that a caravanner could need and all the services are comparable with the best of service that you can find anywhere. When you arrive at a club site you book in and pay your fees, no deposits are taken so the whole fee is paid at this time, you are then given information about the site and are told to go go and have a look at the pitches available ( all empty pitches are available ) choose one, set up and then let the wardens know where you have gone. Should you decide for whtever reason that you need to leave before the date that you have paid till, you can inform the wardens that you are leaving and will receive a refund of all fees for the days that you have paid for but will not be staying for.
Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC) has about 110 sites of it's own a handful (6 at the last count ) of which are members only and a network of about 1500 CS's ( like CL's ), the standard of the sites over the whole network is of a more variable standard with the best sites comparing favourably with the CC sites. It also provides a full range of high quality services for the caravanner that are just as good as those provided by the CC. When you arrive at a club site you book in and pay the remainder of your fees ( a deposit will be taken when you book which if you cancel more than 7 days in advance you get back, within 7 days you lose ), the warden will decide where you are to pitch and will escort you to it and ensure that you have pitched precisely as he requires. Should you need to leave for any reason the fees that you have paid will be forfeit ( though in some circumstances by special request to head office giving circumstances and doctors notes be placed on account for you to use in the rest of the year )
I have been a member of the CC for 19 years and have never regretted it, I have been a member of the CCC on two occasion in the last four years and have on both occasions resigned it just did not suit me. I know of a lot of people who like and use the CCC so I would suggest that it is worthwhile joining both clubs and seeing which one suits your purpose best

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
i am new to caravaning too... and have been looking at whitch club to join for weeks...but after reading all the reports on what there like and how little i would save i've decided to not bother with any of them....i dont fancey guanteed average every time i go away.. i ll just take the rough with the smooth..its a bit more interesting..

I guess i should be asking...r they kitted out for kids and family friendly ...
Depends what your expecting ? Some but not all C.C and C&CC sites have play area's for children .
If you can afford to join both clubs it gives you a wider choice but if you want quality and better toilet/showers the C.C is by far the best.
The C&CC are acceptable but not to the same standard
I agree with agde, I have spent along time looking at both clubs and have decided that we are not going to bother with either at the moment.
If you are not intrested in the very small CL type sites then there are plenty of sites around that offer just as good, if not better pricing without needing to pay membership fees.
We are members of both and its the C&CC for us - very child friendly and if you join in the meets they will have their own section too which they can tent camp in if they want. Unless we find a CL that we like we won't be continuing with the CC
We like the CC as have a 17 month old and the CC toddler bathrooms are excellent and always spotless. We have stayed at one C&CC site and agree with the above comments in that we felt the facilities weren't quite as good. If you are happy using your van shower / facilities then maybe look at the C&CC but if high standard washrooms are important then consider the CC.
We looked at the cost benefits of joining before we did and I have to say that the membership pays for itself very quickly. When you add in all the extras on many private sites (ehu, awning, dog, etc) the CC sites work out good value for money.......their on line booking system is also excellent and you have the benefit of been able to cancel up to 72 hrs before going which is handy if the weather changes or you can't go!
Best bet is to find a site close to you from each club and just pop along for a look...it will at least give you an indication of what might appeal to you.

So it's you that's booking up the sites and not going just because the weather's not great!
Member of both for last 2 years and CC for me every time and we have kids 6 and 3. I think this thing about the CC not being family friendly might hae been true in past but we've certainly never felt it and always plenty of families, times are a changing... CC sites are consistently of a high standard C&CC can be very hit and miss from my experience.
We joined the C&CC club last year and have just renewed.
We used 1 CS last year and attended 1 rally and used commercial sites on all other outings.
One thing that has not been mentioned here Re the C&CC club is that, usually in the warmer months, District Associations ( DA's ) arrange Tempoary Holliday Sites ( THS's ) at numerous locations throughout the country.
They are often, but not always, simmilar to long rallies and are often held for weeks at a time - often there is no EHU available.
They have flexibility regarding your length of stay and often don't need to be booked in advance.
EG :
For two of the three weeks of our summer trip down south this year near the coast we will attend two THS's.
1st THS £7.00 per unit night.
2nd THS £8.50 pun.
If you have all the facilities you need in your van and can derive your own mains power from what you have with you then you are not likely to go short of much.
I bought a 600 watt mains invertor this year and wired a removable auxilliary battery in the cars load space to enable us to use THS's for long stays.
The caravan also has it's own battery.
I know that 600 watts from a 12v battery for prolonged use will soon flatten the battery and it will be used accordingly.
The caravan and auxilliary battery can be swapped as the need arises ensuring that we will always have a good charged battery available.
I don't know whether the CC has theit equivalent of the THS.
Last year on commercial sites for our main 3 week holiday down south we were paying between about £17 to £25 pound per night IIRC.
Being semi-retired now, the use of THS's will enable us to take more and longer trips in the caravan without it becomming overly expensive.
I have just checked the C&CC club website without logging in to see what details are given re THS's.
Type THS in the search box there for an explanation.
Full details of planned THS's are only viewable to members when logged in.
Hope this helps.
