Ive had this seller saved in my favourites for a while as I liked a van he was selling quite a while back. Anyway I came across him again and noticed he's still repairing accident damaged vans and still has flawless feedback. Not being too clued up on the insurance terms and conditions I'm intrigued by the text in this auction which states that if you have new for old insurance and damage a van you can insist on a new replacement rather than get the caravan repaired even though it's a fixable repair- is that true? So he basically buys the rejected vans does the cosmetic repair and sells them on - would it still have been written off I'm presuming selling it on again could be awkward as crisvwould flag something up? Would you touch with barge pole?
surely this is along the same lines as a car CatD write off?
seems ok to me, as long as you accept the fact that it is worth less than a non-damaged van, I see no reason to not look at it.
I would also want some kind of assurance, in writing from the manufacturer that any warranty remaining would still be in force.
In the write up the he puts, Can be cris registered and insured as before. Does this mean its not CRIS registered at the moment, ask for the registration number, do a CRIS check, see what comes up.

i'm just going through this myself sadly. Van insured new for old for £14,500, current 2nd hand value £9,500. repair cost=£12k.
This becomes a cat c write off as its not worth repair, despite insurance still having to fork out the full 14,500
ive not had any choice in the matter, and in fact my prefence was to keep the van/repaired.
Of course like cars and bikes, once it is recorded as a total loss, then this will impact on your own insurance policy.....as they will take this into account in any settlement if you make a claim against a van that was previously written off.
i would think that the insurance companies of caravans have duty to inform CRIS of write off,as said cat c write off.once CRIS knows this i do not think they will issue a document saying its ok to use.possibly the insurance would need an independant report to say it was safe for the road and safe to use if repaired.
