Morning, with no hook up options left in virtually every site I've looked at, does the caravan battery operate the hot water pump?.. ie will I be able to use the shower?. I can use the gas for the fridge and cooker etc. Not sure I can go 3 days with no shower!

Hi I think in the Lynx you should have a gas fired water heater so you will have hot water but you do need your battery for your water pump and that use about 3.8 amps so if your caravan has a 75ah battery you could run the pump for 2 hours in a prefect world!!!! that is but also you need to factor in lights but I think you should be ok for 3 days I hope that helps in some way cheers Bruce

Before COVID we used to take our caravan to a few festivals and other off grid sites, usually for 3-4 days. We run the heat, hot water and fridge on gas, and a fully charged 110ah battery always lasts the full time to run the lights and water pump and charge our phones. However, we have a solar panel on the roof so in the summer it does a pretty good job at keeping the battery topped up.
We didn't have the solar panel on our previous MH, and the 12V lights dimmed when we ran the pump for the washing up (yes, the leisure battery was in good condition, and it got topped up when we were driving). Showers might be off for the 3 days - a strip wash in a bowl of gas-heated hot water will have to do. You'll need to keep some battery power for flushing the loo.

having said that i think quite a few folks are gonna have trouble finding hook up pitches available.. most caravaners i know do need them..

I can't go off grid as I don't want to carry and use gas/LPG, hence I need EHU all the time.
Also, for personal safety reasons, I don't fancy going anywhere remote off the beaten track.

I'm also one who needs EHU if I am staying more than a couple of nights because my caravan has been fitted at some time with a domestic fridge. It's a great fridge and works well, but simply no EHU = no fridge. I can't really afford to replace a perfectly good fridge, and we normally go to sites with EHU anyway. However, the only things we actually use EHU for are the fridge and battery charger, unless we are going early or late season when we might need our convector heater overnight.
If we can't find a site with EHU when we come to book, we simply won't go. We don't like packed sites anyway and wouldn't enjoy it. Hoping we might get lucky though as we always avoid starting any away trips on a Friday or Saturday. Monday is our favourite start day, as being retired we can go whenever we like.
With just using water pump for shower and lighting only even if you still have old fashioned halogen lighting or even old 12v strip lighting a 75 amp battery will do you fine the lights will possible dim when operating the water pump this is just normal voltage drop obviously the lower your battery gets the more you will notice the dimming.
the alternative if your really concerned about your electrics is to leave car and caravan electrics connected and just run the car for a while after the shower and to make sure you have a sailers shower ie get wet turn off shower soap body shampoo hair turn shower back on and rinse off.
depend on the age of your van but it may have the old carver water heater which only allows for a short hot shower anyway
Thank you everyone for your replies, most really helpful. I'm thinking of just winging it and see how it goes. Sadly I work and travel in the van with my best friend so lots to consider before booking in advance.

my advice is to make allowances for the possibility off no hook ups..
your options are.. solar panels.. portable or on the roof.. check the condition of your battery and maybe for emergencies carry a small generator..
there may also be a shortage of bottled gas.. buy in advance..
