We bought our first (used)caravan in February and we've had a wonderful time this year in it. We've realised though that the layout doesn't quite work for us and we're looking to change it for next season.
Question is, should we sell ours (which we're generally happy with) now to get the best price and hope that the one we want becomes available between now and Easter? We can't afford to buy the one we want then sell ours so unless we find one at a dealer that will part ex (and give us a lower price) we're stuck. We're looking for an Elddis 550 (probably the affinity) and they don't seem to come available very often.
Hi Clair
This year we sold our van for a very good price and then waited for a couple of months before purchasing another. My advise us sell now but only if you can get top price for it.
Depends really whether you intend to use your van between now and next year, and whether you think you’ll be able to find the van you want before you intend to go away again -otherwise you may find yourself buying another “compromise” van just so you’ve got one. We use ours all year round and wouldn’t be happy without a van to get away as and when we feel like it (the joys of retirement).
This time of year is a good time to buy, not a good time to sell. At the end of the season people are getting rid of their vans, so the prices tend to fall. However, in the spring people are thinking of holidays and looking to buy, hence prices tend to rise.
That might be the case in times gone past, I wouldn't say it applies now.
Caravan prices are still at a high and will continue to be so until foreign travel is back to the way it used to be, if that ever happens.
The trade in price we received for our van a few weeks ago nearly knocked me off my perch.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I think it would still apply, just at a higher level. I agree that in the present circumstances things have changed, but I would expect there to be caravans coming onto the market now from people who bought during the pandemic and realised that caravanning wasn't for them. They will be looking to offload them to fund a big Christmas that they missed out on last year. I would also expect people to start looking for caravans again after the winter is over and they are thinking about holidays.
