Hi all, I notice that BCA in Measham have an auction on today for Caravans and Motorhomes, if I had noticed earlier I would have gone.
Has anyone on here ever bought a from caravan from the auctions? are they any cheaper? Iam looking for a newish van as I sold mine 2 years ago and we are really missing it
I think they are on every month so I will probably go next month.
i went there about 8 years ago on the van hunt.
all over priced and many with damp and bits missing.
not impressed basically

Many people will tell you auctions are rubbish and certainly they will sell rubbish that dealers don't want to put their name to but they will also sell some good clean recent vans that go through an auction for all sorts of reasons. You need to be able to sort the good from the bad and then you can get a bargain.
A friend of ours has bought from there a couple of times and had very good vans which have had little use. On both occasions he sold them on for a handsome profit after using them for a couple of holidays
I live not far from Measham myself and have been to the car auctions there just for a look about three times over the past five years. However, there was a caravan auction taking place at one time so I decided to have a look and see what was for sale. Apparently it looked like there were more older caravans on that day (what was left anyway) so it's hard to say but what I will say is it's a big gamble where caravans are concerned. They are basically sold as seen which means that they come with no warranty whatsoever which can be a bit risky to say the least. The cars are a different issue because although they are also sold as seen there is a period allowed which I think is 3 days to return the vehicle for a full refund if there are any serious engine or transmission problems. You just may well be able to get a bargain from the caravan and motorhome section but I wouldn't personally like to take that gamble myself not unless you can get one under 5 years old maybe but then again I don't have that kind of money anyway. I prefer to buy from a dealer where all the necessary HPI checks have been done and a warranty.

I agree and they do at times but if you find any damp within the warranty period you have the right to a full refund because the caravan was not fit for purpose unless it was specifically stated prior to purchase that there was damp then they won't usually offer a warranty. If the dealer refuses to co-operate and you have the caravan on finance then you can make an official complaint to the lender and they will normally take up your case with the dealer. If anyone wants to take the gamble at auction prices I haven't got a problem with that, all I was stating is that I wouldn't want to and the reasons why. Each to his own.

I went there a couple of years ago looking at the caravans. There were some very damp vans there and there were some nice vans there, at the time I went there were a lot of reposessed finance vans and there were a lot of dealers there buying multiple vans. I thought it might be a place to pick up a bargain but they were going for as much as you could pick one up private sale.
