Hi Everyone,
Following on from another thread can I just highlight to those who have insurance with the CC to ensure that your Alko Secure Wheel lock (if you have one) is registered with Alko if you are claiming their 10% discount.
I recently changed our policy with them when we changed vans and at the same time purchased a used alko wheel lock on flea bay. When I told the CC that I woud now like to claim the 10% discount on the new van for having the lock I was specifically asked if the lock was registered to me. As I had brought it 2nd hand I hadn't thought about asking for a registation code but luckily I had brought this via a dealer who was selling old stock and they exchanged the barrells for me for another one that had a set of keys and the registration card (the original sent did not have this).
Following the telephone call to the CC I received an updated policy and a seperate letter headed "Endorsement attaching to and forming part of policy number XXXXX.." which states that:
ALKO Secure Wheel Lock Clause
It is a condition precedent to the liabiity of the underwriters under this insurance that:
1. (Refers to when it must be fitted)
2. (refers to twin axles)
3. Al-ko Secure wheel lock(s) shall have been registered with Al-Ko and maintained in good order throughout the currency of the insurance under the terms laid down by the manufacturer
4. (relates to keys, etc)
Just thought I would highlight this to forum members as clause 3 could be relevant if you have purchased a lock 2nd hand like we did and hadn't thought about registration. Buying one 2nd hand is NOT an issue providing the previous owner deregister's it and gives you the details so you can then register it in your name.
I am not sure how firm the CC would be on this clause in the event of a claim but thought I would highlight it just in case others weren't aware (we have all heard the stories of companies trying to avoid paying out in the event of a claim!). I have no idea if other companies have a similar clause but worth reading the small print of your policy!
As I say just thought I would share this as it came up on another thread so it is clear that this is not commonly highlighted !
