I have been to see a Fleetwood caravan where it states back dinette area can be made up into double bed, but there are no pull out slats. Little info on net, but friend told me that tables are sometimes used. Does anyone know if this is the case?
Yes, on the older caravans this is how the double beds were made up of having a table as the base. Have a look at both of the front base cushions of the seats and directly below there may be a wooden 'L' shaped ridge either side. If there is then this is usually where the table slots in to. There should also be a cushion that fits directly on to the table to make up the final matress part.
Thats how the beds make up in a folding camper. Like tango55 says the table fits in the space and you usually find the back of the seats fit in the gap left.
Cushions will fit, but its a 2006 version Meridien. Would you class this as old? My friend says table would slide down (rather than fold flat), still standing on its legs? Never heard or seen this in any other van. Would this be right, without looking at van again. (Van is approx 1 hours drive away) Thanks
yes tables were the in-thing a number of years ago only problem could be condensation because the table has a plastic outer covering and the water vapour from your sweat cannot permeate so it condenses and you will not notice this until you undo the bed in the morning the more you sweat, the more the condensation we made some untreated wooded slats to put under the mattress to cure the problem
Hi, in our Fleetwood it does use the table as the bed in the front section, there is a handle on the front leg of the table which releases the mechanism for it to fold down to bed level, you dont remove or have to bend in legs etc, it is a very slick movement and you just pull handle again to get the table come back up. They also use this system in the Adria caravans.
Some corregated cardboard under cushions works well if condensation is a problem.
Is the Fleetwood rear dinette area U shaped or parallel seating? Whichever it is should have a table to fill the gap to make a double bed.
I would phone the seller and ask them to confirm that a double bed is available at the rear.
I wasn't referring to your caravan being old, I was just merely saying that this is how all older caravans used to adopt the double bed set up. I'm not at all familiar with Fleetwood so I can't really offer sound advice on this but it may well be wise to start a new thread first with 'Fleetwood Bed Set Up' in the title as this may well attract people with a Fleetwood caravan who may well be able to resolve your question before you take an hours trip to your caravan.
Our 2010 Lunar Quasar uses the table from the rear dinette to makes the bed. The cushions then make the mattress. We've only had kids sleep on it but they've not complained and slept like logs.
