I decided to get the oil changed on our discovery TD5 and took it to kwikfit. It seemed to take forever. 85 minutes instead of the 40 minutes advised.
When he was nearly finished I saw the fitter with a tyre pressure hose checking the tyre pressures. I asked him what pressure he was putting in and he said 33lb/sq.in. on all four wheels.
The front pressures I normally use for towing are 30 on the front and 42 at the back. So don't assume kwikfit have pressured your tyres to the correct pressure - check them yourself.
Kwikfit are like any other chain - you get good and bad. Fortunately, my local one is very good, but it all depends on the quality of the mechanics there
Like all chains they seem to go out of their way to try to find something wrong so they can charge an extortionate price to fix it. While I was waiting I was watching the hard sell going on.
One guy was told an interim service was £109 and asked what the difference was between an interim service and a full service. He was told the spark plugs get changed with a full service. He then paid £185 for the full service.

They are ok for tyres (if you buy them on line first)
I used their service and mot offer never again, their service for one is not a full service just something they have thought up
Our jeep failed the mot and i was told wear on the steering rack (after 18000 miles) When i collected it the bill showed track rod end changed and guess what, it had not...
Anyone with a Motability vehicle has no option but to use Kwikfit for tyres, Went with simple nail in tyre puncture repair - car only 4 weeks old 150 on clock. KF informed Motability new tyre needed cannot repair puncture so new tyre fitted, tyres inflated and balanced. Asked about pressure said only me in car he always put 32psi on all 4, one said 34 all 4. It should be 29/31 unloaded. Rechecked they were all 38

very true brian, so what did he get for the money, a quick look t the brakes and maybe a pollen filter, do seem a big jump for very little, fuel filter ?
its very common for garages to put all tyres to a certain pressures like 33psi all around, its not right but it happens
For tyres use Etyres for both van and car. For MOT look at www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk. They have a list of local authority places that the public can use. Only do MOTs do no incentive for them to find faults. Or like we did, ask friends recommendation. We use a great family run, old fashioned garage.
