Hi All - I was just wondering if people have trouble getting about and are registered disabled they can get a mobility allowance is that correct? If that is the case why cant they extend it to help in buying a caravan. This would not only give them freedom to get around but also allow them to have a holiday too which can be a much better tonic.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Allowances are for helping you out at home in different ways, by others helping your or things to buy to help you.
The car mobility is for helping those who need extra help to get out and including away on holiday, by the car they pay for via giving up their high mobility allowance.
Not for paying out for caravans, motorhomes, tt or FC that you pay for yourself. For those that are disabled that have no hols. Age concern & other disabilty places give help in that area by knowing hotels or boarding houses that cater for such.
My mobility allowance gives me a car on lease, I am very thankful for this as no other way of getting one. The FC we bought with savings we had already. I do not expect the people who still work to pay for my FC. I paid full stamps for my benefits and my Bob paid all his life that helps pay for me.
BUT I would rather be fit & healthy and still be able to walk so I do not need those benefits. The someone else could have them.
When they are cutting the blue badges from a lot of people who cannot walk far,and could still be needing them badly but have lost them. You ask for a caravan to be considered.
Get real.be satisfied, or go without, the same as we did to get what we have.
I would get a tent if I could not have the FC anymore, there is such a thing as getting a higher bed made that is portable.A lump of wood, 4-6 wooden legs screwed on/off for travel. A foam mattres we have already. The rest of the camping gear we have.
I will not be giving up or in that easy.Nor abuse the system when others go without. That need it like I do and do not get it like I do.
I was refering to my neighbour his quality of life seems very poor and he never goes away and always watches me clean my van ready to go away. He sometimes says he wishes he couls afford something like that he would go away. I always feel quite sorry for him I was only talking to him today that is what triggered me to write in. But Beanstalk seems to be having a go for some reason.

A couple of years ago there was a dealership, I think around the Wolverhampton area. Who advertised in one of the club magazines and said that for people disabled people they would not charge VAT. They also said that if there was any problem they would fight it through the courts. I rang them to see if it was true and they said it was, and they had already gone through the courts and won.
Saying all that I never saw the advert again.
I know where Chalkie is coming from. This guy may have fought in the last war for all we know so,as the saying goes dont judge the book by its cover. He may have also payed into the state all his life as well.
I for one is glad that Chalkie noticed this, and if the guy is gen then the best of luck to him.Rather see him get it than some outsider
And the answer to the above is,,yes disabled people do qualify for vat excemption.

So free caravans to to all ex service personnel & for those of us that have paid into the state all our lives? Sounds ok to me.
No Tenz..they give up their mobility money to pay for it.
This is a touchy subject on here or anywhere else, they are genuine disabled people out there its the ones that are not that ruins it for others.
I was suprized that, you can take out a van over seven years to pay for it.
My neighbour doesnt talk about it much - he is retired has a pension, lost his wife a while back - I have a feeling he had a work related injury which left him disabled - If ever he sells his car I would snatch his hand off its done about 10k - he never goes out. I came home last night from work and he just wants to talk and I just wanted to eat (and a few beers Tentz). He is not a scrounger just a little lonely and think if there was assistance out there it would dramatically increase his quality of life.

The Mobility Allowance is only payed to people who qualified for it before reaching the age of 65, once you have been granted it you carry on getting it after age 65, other allowances are available for disabled who only qualify after age 65.
CAB or Age UK can give advice on what can be claimed and will even do the paper work.
I agree with you Chalkie, the guy seems lonely perhaps no family, there is a lot of help out there for him if he contacts social care. There is also the Princess Anne trust who can organize a holiday for him i think.
My dad was in the same situation before he died, though we were close at hand we contacted the social care and what a difference it made to his quality of life.
Chalkie I think you're lovely, wish everyone cared as much, I often chat to my elderly neighbour, sometimes I just want to get out or in, but I knw she's on her own and just gets lonely, the year after her husband died I had her round or Christmas dinner, I couldn't leave her on her own.she has no children, and her sister lived away then, I think I made her Christmas .
It sounds if he would like a holiday.Your great Chalkie :)

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Murano - I am now going to burst your bubble. He really is a nice guy and some Sundays when my wife cooks a proper roast she will take him one round. But the down side is if I want to do some external work on my house he comes around and doesnt stop yakking.
