I have just purchased an Abbey spectrum 420 and it needs a new battery, I have a new unused 100amp AGM battery available, is the current one board charging system capable of charging this type of battery, it currently has a normal lead /acid one ?
You would need to check the charging unit manufacturers specs.
I had a new 2023 van and the charger would not charge the AGM battery I had, it was clearly stated in the specs.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Assuming original OEM charger, yes it will, but at a cost! The cost being it's almost CERTAIN that it won't have the right charging profile for a AGM battery, therefore will not fully charge the battery to it's design voltage (slightly higher than an ordinary Lead Acid battery), and that incorrect charging profile can (will!) shorten the battery's life.
You'll have a mostly functional battery, but it won't last as long as it should, bit of a waste of an expensive AGM battery IMHO.
Answer could be use a stand alone AGM compatible charger periodically (monthly) to top up the battery to it's correct charged voltage.
Thank you for your answers, I suspected the charging profiles might be different, I think buying a stand alone charger will probably be the most cost effective solution
