Hi - need some advice please.
I have a caravan parked next to, but not touching, our neighbour's boundary. It's been there for over 3 years and has never been an issue. However, my neighbour retired earlier this year and has recently complained that when the sun is out the sunlight reflects off the caravan windows into his lounge so he has to shut his blinds so he can watch the TV. The caravan is NOT parked directly in front of their house but to the side. It is NOT blocking any access to their house nor is it stopping any light getting into their lounge. The sun, when it is out, is not on the caravan all day - only for a short period in the afternoon. He has asked us to move the caravan as he feels he shouldn't be inconvenienced in his own home by having to get up to close his blinds for a short time so he can watch the TV but understands that we can't do this as we have two cars in the drive. There are no covenants that restrict my parking a caravan on my drive. It's now causing friction where we used to get on really well!

I suppose if you put a fitted cover on the caravan then it would not reflect the light. Otherwise just ignore him.

One possible answer to the problem if you are inclined to try to help him, would be to put a cover over the van. It really depends on how obliging you want to be.
Why would anyone wish to watch tv in the afternoon, anyway?
We get on very well with our neighbour but she is a menace with her constant feeding of seagulls. To keep the peace, I go to the expense and effort of keeping covers over the caravan and both cars.
Personally, I would have thought your neighbour could easily draw blinds/curtains for the odd occasion necessary.

Offer to fit a set of blinds that can be opened and closed via a remote control, if fitting a cover of some sort on the van to avoid sunlight deflection does not work.

I support the suggestions about covering the van so it can’t be accused of causing reflections. A cheap cover won’t break the bank.
My BIL had delusions about people looking in the windows as they walked past, before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I really do very much hope it’s not the case here.

I get the same problem with my neighbours green house. However it only lasts no more than 10 minutes before the sun's moved and also it's only when the sun is at the right height governed by the time of year.

For me it's just not a problem and I wouldn't dream of even mentioning it let alone asking them to do anything about it.

Exactly the same can happen with house windows especially if one is side opening.

Thanks all. I’ve had covers in the last which have damaged the windows so probably not worth it but thanks for the suggestions. Plus I get the feeling that if we did put a cover on it he would complain!!

Ignore it as most days if sun out and we want to watch TV as we did with Tennis a few weeks ago we needed to pull curtains. If he is watching his TV why would he want to look out his window at the same time

Indeed.

We get it on a hot summer's evening for about 15 mins or so, from the neighbour's open bedroom window across the road.
Not reflecting onto our TV, but straight into my face!
It probably affects me twice a year, if that!


Perhaps the OP's neighbour fancies a move around, and to not put his telly facing the window!
