How much do people pay for a night on site with caravan, awning 2 adults and 2 kids we are looking for this years trips and some prices are a joke or am i being unrealistic? I want to be paying about £20 to £25 but some i have been looking at are coming to £28 to £35 i don't want a pub or theme park just nice clean toilets a decent play area. Am i being tight
Fair bit depends on when you are travelling but we are same as you with 2 kids and I've come to expect anything between £25-£30 per night for what we like which seems similar to you. Prices do seem to be rising, I suspect the seemingly ever increasing cost of electricity has no small part to play in this. I speak slightly more longer term before someone pulls me up by mentioning the rather puny recent reductions is standard rate electricity costs. But when you think about it the rising cost of oil means many consumables required to run sites go up in price.. Even the fuel in the mowers.. All goes to increase overheads I guess...
Join a club and try some CS type sites. If you can go out of school hols its not such a problem but during hols we just lock up the van. We have no children to holiday with us so can be flexible.
Its a bit of a trek from Leeds but so worth it for a week etc but try Dolbryn, gorgeous grassy pitches about 30 mins from beaches. It has a fab adventure playground, in school hols Dave & Bev arrange crafty activities for the kids, bbqs, quiz's, they even have a small little rustic bar run by themselves in school hols and weekends. Theres a dog walking area, nature trail, ball field, fishing and its all for £16 per pitch with elec and £2 per child over 5 and I don't think they alter those prices all season! We go to all sorts of different types of sites, some are pretty expensive but this is one our absolute favourites - a real gem!
you ought to try rallies, 5 nights at New Year (inclusive of food each evening) was £42, there was loads of stuff laid on for the kids to do during the day and on an evening as well as stuff for the adults. We had a brill time and everyone in the group are really friendly. The bonus is we get to go away more now we are paying so little. Only downside is that there is no hookups and usually no facilites but having a van is not a problem as you have the facilites on board.

I think you have got to be earning an MD's bonus before being able to afford some sites. I feel sorry for people with families it must cost an arm and a leg just for a day out these days.
I am fairly fortunate in that I camp solo and there are still lots of sites charging less than £10 per person but that could still work out expensive for a family.
After 10 years on the same site in Cornwall the £42 a night in August is too much for a nice but basic site.
We have gone 3 miles up the coast to a site we passed many times and always said we would take a look at for the last 2 years and its brilliant and £26 a night for the same period.
On the old site we had lots of familiar faces coming back every year but for the last couple of years they were missing.
it used to be a cheap getaway for us when we had the 3 kids at home , but nowadays , well i dont think we`d have a caravan with these prices for a family.
i do know of a couple of sites who will only charge you £11 and £18 a night for a family of 4 (all year round prices ), and thats with a hook up and both within reach for you for a weekend break.
let me know if you want info , give us an email addy and i will pass you info . not being harsh to others but i dont want the sites getting toooo popular or else we`ll not get a pitch.
Its just a rip off since people who went abroad decided to buy a caravan because of the bombings etc.The campsites noticed this and up went the prices.Caravaning is not cheap unless youve got a good payed job or pension. In my view the days of the working man having a cheap holiday is gone.
It's gone full circle. Camping started off as a pastime for the rich then when us working folk started getting paid a little better we were able to partake, but now the rich have taken over again and us working folk are back to day trips to the seaside...when we have managed to scrimp and save a few pennies that is. Won't be long before the workhouses start appearing again
before joining any of the clubs first check out what the prices will be for you, as ive seen a few people with familys complain that the clubs sites are to expensive to
Its not just touring sites that have shot up in price, our daughter has just booked a 4 berth self catering log cabin in west Wales for the middle of May, which is in their cheap 'saver' price band, and her Dad always gives her half towards the cost, to make sure she and the grandchildren get a well earned Holiday after working hard all year,
Well, his face was a picture, when he asked her the price, £430 came the answer, followed by 'thats the short break price for 4 nights'!
It doesnt cost us much more than that for a whole seasons (8weeks) pitch fees!
