I thought I would share this positive experience. There are many horror stories that I have read that made me expect the worse, when in fact it all went smoothly. It may help others who are considering who to insure their van with.
We are/were insured with the Caravan Club (who if I remember were very competitive with their price). In October last year our caravan was stolen and within 48 hours it had been found. There was damage, but not excessive. Inside many of the contents were stolen. All together the quotes for repair/replacement came to nearly £5,500!!! To cut a long story short, we finally sent all the quotes to the insurance company, it went through the underwriters, to the assessors, a visit was made and their response was to pay us the retail value and take the caravan away for salvage. Very sad though all this was, we cannot fault how the claim was dealt with. They were all very prompt with their action and we also believe from talking to various people, that the retail value they agreed to pay was very fair. Today the caravan went and the cheque is already sitting in our bank account.
I would not hesitate to use the Caravan Club again - I just hope we aren't faced with a huge premium given our past claim.
If there is one thing however, that we were remiss on, it's making sure we were properly insured, i.e. contents high enough to cover all the items we have added to the van, and make sure we reduce the value of the caravan each year.
