Hi all i have seen one of those balls that fit a towhitch on e bay, (the sort that fits up inside the hitch with a key) has anyone bought one - are they any good - and will it fit and alko caravan hitch,( sorry about this but this is the first time i have a van with a fancy towing system)the person i have contacted says "i think it might" well that is not a yes or a no is it? so help please rolls
Yes it does work.If i can remember there was an allen key fitting which, when you turn it with the allen key it expanded the two halfs of the ball which, was held together with a spring. You then fitted a lock piece.
As Michael said it may become rusty due to the metals its made with but a good coat of WD40 then wiped off should stop this..
All hitch balls are 50mm. diameter so the lock will be made exactly the same size to fit the hitch. I have never used one but I would imagine that they would rust over time unless it was frquently lubricated like Jeff said. What you have to watch is that the lubrication doesn't contaminate the internal friction pads otherwise it could lead to other problems that very often people ask about on here.
These type of hitchlocks are insecure because they would allow a thief to unbolt the whole hitch, replace it with another & tow the caravan away in a few mins. You need the type that covers the 2 fixing bolts. Al-Ko stabiliser hitch needs a specific lock. Several makes available & none of them that cheap but you will often see them secondhand on ebay.
Agree with TentZ. Also, from memory, it you are referring to the device I think you are, I looked at these a while back, not sure if they fit all Alko anti snake devices, or perhaps any.
I managed to pick up the hitchlock for the anti snaking Alko AS device for around £50 brand new off of ebay so worth keeping your eyes open.
I had one on my horse trailer also a wheel clamp and 2 chains fastened to the barm but some swines still managed to steal it. Found the ball lock in peices, they'd somehow prized it out. So no dont bother with one get something more substantial.

We had one of those, but after misplacing the allen key one day and having panic attacks decided to stop using it.
given long enough they will steal anything, luckily our van is at home behind the house.two wheel clamps, two heavy chains from the wall to the rear legs,a heavy chain to a ground anchor at the front going over the chassis, hitch lock, all chains have expensive locks,IDM4 alarm, takes me about 15 minutes to release the van before we go but i don't mind.no cushions in it at the moment so this makes it less desirable.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
