First trip of the season at the weekend so I've started getting the van ready. Last year we had water problems so I thought I'd better check everything before we left.

Everything was drained down at the end of last season and taps were left in the on position. I've plugged in the pump and it's obvious that all the pipes have frozen solid and the pipe is blocked where it enters the van. We put the heating on overnight and I've checked it just now and there's no change.

What's the best thing to do? Leave it and hope it defrosts over time or try to warm things up now?

I would get as much heat as possible in the van and make sure its getting to the pipes.Seems its not been drained right.if you get it thawed you will have to check all the joins in the pipes and i hope also you have emptied the loo pump right as this might be damaged.

Yes the flush tank was fully drained and the bottom plug has been left out. The pipes bend so much and loop under the van at one point so I guess you're right and it hasn't drained properly. No idea how to overcome that though for next year

If you van won't drain down fully then you can use this

Floe drain down kit

You could also make your own.

AH i know what your on about.I too have a Bailey and under the sink there was a loop it had cost me a new kitchen tap,will do a search to see if i can find it.

That loop cost us a tap last year as well but we welded it with a tent peg heated on the barbecue

I've just been out and checked and things re improving so I'll give it another hour and chuck a kettle full of boiling water in the aquaroll

if you have the carver 2 heater it could be your non return valve has stuck due to the frost. an indication of this is if you have cold water to the cold taps but non coming from the hot taps.ie no water is getting into the water boiler. could just be an air lock in the pump.remove pump completely and add pump to the aquaroll water before fitting it to the van.

Update: It's now defrosted after 20 hours of the warm air heater being on and there are no obvious leaks or other problems.

The blockage was in the pipe immediately behind the whale pump connector. You could hear water pushing against it and then stopping but it went no further than that. Once that cleared it flowed through the rest of the system as normal, the tank heated up and all taps worked perfectly.

I shall now leave the heater on until we go away!
