Hi everyone, i've just joined The Camping and Caravanning Club and just wondering if someone could give me some tips on how best to use this club to get the most out of it. I am the type of camper who doesn't really care where the site is, but always does some research before hand to make sure i know there's stuff to do when i get there as i have 2 young kids. I am a spur of the moment type also that once i get the idea into my head i want to go now, i like to wait for things.

So anyone with previous experiance to guide me i look forward to hearing from you.

We are in the Camping & Caravanning Club too and the best way to get the most out of your unit is if you don't mind not having the electric facility then you could attend one of the District Association groups (DA) in the 'Out and About' section as they have meets most weekends throughout the UK so there's always somewhere to go and you don't have to book either. They also have temporary holiday sites which usually work out much cheaper. If it's more of the club sites you want with electric hook up with full facilities then you can use their website as each site provides all the relevant details plus the prices per night and there's no extra charge for an awning, a dog or car parking. There are also reviews on each location to see what people think of the site in general but I also use these pages on this site to see if that particular site is listed and read the reviews on here too. This is where UKcampsite can be really beneficial too as well as all the help on offer from fellow campers and caravanners.

Well I would ensure I sampled the THS system, Temporary Holiday Sites, listed in out and about. They are sure to have some new friends for your children.
I would also sample the DA rallying system but initially ring the organiser to see if the particular DA is one with at least some other children. Some DAs like mine are of members somewhat getting on in years, at just sub 70 we are not far from the our youth section!

The 5 van site system is also worth getting a taste of, though entertainment will have to be self made in almost all cases.
Then if adventurous the C&CC do some good foreign holiday packages.

Not all is to alls taste but try it to know rather than assume, but most of all enjoy.

Not really much more that I can add to the above 2 posts. I think they have given you a very good overview of the C&CC.

The best way to get the most out of the C&CC is to be an active member.
I regularly attend rallies - you can attend any meet, not just the ones that are run by the DA you are a member of. Full details fo all rallies and THS (temporary holiday sites) can be found either in the magazine or on the Club's website.

I make full use of the CS sites (small, often minimal facility sites) which offer some excellent value for money camping.
My favourite CS charges just £8 per night with EHU or £6 per night without EHU and the site has a lvely children's play park.

The Club sites are of an excellent standard - one of my favourites is Barnard Castle.

We started attending meets last year, mainly for cheap camping but also for the company of other people. Out of 8 meets we only struggled to find friends once - although there were other family's there they were obviously quite a close knit group. Our daughter is almost 11 & really enjoys the freedom of field meets. Look for "Children's" meets where you can guarantee that there will be organised activities for them. We don't stick with one DA but pick & choose where we want to go. Also you might find that one DA have a strong youth section where they'll get the kids together for an impromptu game of rounders etc.

So, I would take a look at your area and see what each DA are doing by looking at their websites. We were allocated membership to Hampshire but found that there were quite a few smaller groups in the area which suited us better.

See you in a field somewhere!!

We are members of both the CC and the C&CC, but we tend to use CC sites more often. You only need to stop for 5 nights on a C&CC site to make it worthwhile joining.

we wont be renewing our C&CC membership when it runs out in August. I prefer CC sites, the CC mag is much better than the rubbish C&CC one too that goes straigh in the recycling bin every month.

I only keep our C&CC going because we go to Conkers with friends over the May Day weekend - in fact we do 5 nights so it's worth it - just! I'll email you tomorrow, Savanne.

Best wishes

We use far more C&CC sites than CC ones as we are local to Teversal (ish), Conkers, Kingsbury, Cannock Chase, Leek, Blackmore(at a push) and we love a weekend away without too much travelling.

I am in both clubs.
I have been in the c&cc for much longer. We have always used their carefree travel when going to France. We have booked this year to go to holland. This service is excellent and makes it very easy. I think for families it is quite good value.
When our children were young we used a lot of commercial sites because we wanted swimming pools etc. but as they got to early teens we used locations like Newquay in Cornwall. Always things to do there, plus we could walk to the beach.
I then picked sites that were good for cycling. Read the book and check out reviews. They are quite good value if you compare to commercial sites or if you can go outside of high season. I like full facility sites. With elu. I think this is important with children.
Even though we began with a tent and didn't have anything in those days.
Good luck have fun.

We too are members of both clubs, but as you can see from the signature we visit CC sites much more. The biggest problem for me is that the C&CC don't allow electric booking for a 1 night Saturday stay.

Most of the points already covered but would add their caravan insurance is worth a look. I am with both clubs and have done a general search but still found the C&CC policy best value.

We do meets, CS's and THS.
I see your in Barnsley, dont know if theres a more local DA, Im with Leeds, and theres always kids there of varying ages, and the DA has a strong youth section.
for the THS, I would strongly recommend looking at Fraisthorpe, we have been going every year, and its olnly a few miles outside of brid, and its on the seafront.

We dont necessarily stick with one DA, but living near LBA, most of the meets are Leeds DA ones anyway!

We only started with the rallies last year, and must say we were made more than welcome, and you are free to partake in as much or as little as you want.
