hi all, just to get some things off my chest about the state of our new caravan,
picked our new van up 4 weeks ago when we were looking forward to see a gleaming van on the pick up point only to see a van that didint even looked that it had washed never mind polished. then had to argue about the electric adaptor to fit our new van that the saleman said he would provide, after about half an hour we eventully got a second hand one, then after our first outing noticed a 3inch scratch on the front window, then we noticted that above the front window on the wood trim there was a screw nearly coming though , now we have noticted that i do not have any ligths working on the van there come on and off when i start the car , when back to where i got the van from done some tests replaced the adaptor with a new one worked for a couple of mins and went off again now the problem seems to be on my car ,
Can only hope you bought it with a good end of season discount . Hope your electrical problem is an easy fix and you can then get on with enjoying the `van .
I wouldn`t have accepted a new van unless it was spotless.
Having said that, to notice a scratch on the window after you have been away in the van, rather than before or during suggests that this is something that has been acquired during your tenure.
I also don`t see how having a problem with the cars electrics are grounds for complaining about the `state of your new caravan`? Surely that should be aimed at who ever installed the towing pack on your car??
I know we would all expect our new purchases to be "perfect", but with the amount of human input in caravan building sadly that is most unlikely, but it isn`t unreasonable to expect any faults to be rectified quickly and properly. But lets keep a sense of perspective about things, can we?
Your new caravan will be fitted with a 13pin plug, an adaptor to use with the older type 12n/12s sockets on your car is only really a temporary fix & untidy. You need to take your car to a towbar fitters & get a 13pin socket fitted.
I am getting the tow bar electrics looked at tommorrow see what he says , as regards with the other problems it is still ongoing with cattrick caravans,
Might want to suggest to catterick that having won practical caravan dealer of the year award they have a billing to live up to.. Sure the mere thought of some negative feedback in the very same publication might at least focus their minds on your issues in hand...
The problem is probably with your adaptor, they are often faulty & they are a bodge. As I suggested, get a 13pin socket fitted to your car in place of the 12n/12s sockets.
Certainly it is possible your caravan electrics could be faulty, if they are it is most likely just a badly wired 13pin plug but the first thing to check is the adaptor.
We bought a brand new Elddis crusader super sirocco 2011 from Catterick caravans last July, had no end of similar problems with the van, IE, microwave panel was loose, they told my wife to remove it from the van & take it up to Catterick as i work offshore, the fridge display panel was installed wonky, radiator under the bed was hanging on the pipes, no brackets, screw caps were missing from furniture,my wife noticed the spotlight above the shower was missing, (after they had cleaned the inside & checked it supposedly) they had washed the van but the windows were filthy, there was & still is a soap detergent residue that has marked the decals near the door. and to top it all off, the guy who showed us around the van on the day we collected it, said there is only 1 key so i have ordered you another today, should take 5 days, here we are now 6 months later & still no spare key has arrived. all the above has been sorted apart from the spare key, we got sent a key & a barrel in the post, which doesn't fit, so still waiting for a spare key. Catterick caravans are OK selling the caravan but try to palm you off to any department but who needs to sort it!!!!
