I am looking arounf for my first caravan and it will be a 'crappy' as my budget is just £1250. I would like to buy the best I can for this, it must e dry and clean. I have a young child and really wanted a 3/4 berth but have found that to get a decent van at this price considering 2 berths open up my options.
Could 3 of us plus my dog fit comfortably into a 2 berth caravan with a large doubel bed?
We have an avondale rialto 2 berth and there is 3 of us, 2 adults and our 13 year old son - when the beds are down its about 7ft across (plenty for us 3 ) or the 2 singles and the space down the centre for our son, if you get a van with an end bathroom the dog could sleep in there. In July we went for a week in our van and took our two grandchildren as well, the older two slept in the awning in a inner tent. It depends if you don't mind snuggling together which we don't, if it means you get a smaller but better van for your money then don't hesitate try to get an awning for a bit of extra outside/storage space you won't be disappointed good luck - make sure you update when you've bought yourselves a van .
With a budget of £1250 you should have lots of choices. Obviously you won't get an ultra modern caravan for that but there are plenty of good servicable caravans on the market for much less than that.
A few years back I bought a caravan for £300 and it was a beauty...you just need to put in the time looking and don't be tempted to buy anything with any signs of damp anywhere, even if it doesn't look much and the rest of it is exceptional, because damp is a caravan killer and once it becomes visible it has already rotted the van.
We have always had two birth vans for the last 25 years and even though we have no children I have always thought that when you make the bed up how big they are, plenty of room for a child without any problems,so I would go for it.Ian
Yes easily,we had a bailey pageant cabriolet,it was a 91, 2 berth, the front seats opened up to a huge double bed, and slept me my hubby and son easily we all had a sleeping bag each and slept width ways, the central chest came out giving us loads of space,we weren't cramped, and we had two dogs at the time,a small cavalier who slept on the bed and a Labrador who slept on the floor. It had a cooker grill, shower, loo, lighting everything out modern van had, just a bit older looking that's all, there was no roof light either, but it was spacious and roomy and we were never cramped,in fact thinking back it was a really great van,had loads more room than our four berth lunar had, our son doesn't come anymore as his got older,so we sold the lunar and went back to a two berth, we found that a lot of the two berth were in better decorative condition as there hadn't been families in it.
So search around take a damp meter with you,be prepared to walk away at some, but with a bit of savvy and patience you'll find just what you're looking for, good luck :)

My little caravan is only 5' 6" wide and can accommodate me and my 2 boys. I would have thought a wider, more modern van could easily sleep 2 adults and a child. However, the only problem you may find with a 2 berth is that once your child goes to bed, you have nowhere to sit and no floor space for the dog - something to think about!!
You will find some good late 80s or early 90s 4 berths within your price range. How about a twin dinette which would give everyone their own space?
Hi i bought a swift challanger 5 berth complete with dorema awning at the hight of the season. for £1200 and i absolutely love it. She has an end bedroom with a double bed and a single bunk above this with a sliding door for privacy. so if the kids are tired they can go to bed without being disturbed. I have a double at the other end and a proper shower cooker and hot running water also a casette toilet. I have been away in her all season and only put her in storage in november. so dont rush and shop around. look at a few till you get what you want. Since having mine a lot of my friends have converted to vans with end bedroom because they are better with children. we even have a small tv and dvd in there. Its great

i would look for a 3 berth, or perhaps a 4 berth one whilst i understand it ok and manageable to have a young tot in with mam and dad (we have done it ourselves)i think once the child gets to say 5 or 6 they should then have their own bed perhaps im a prude but i certainly wouldnt have a teenager in bed with us boy or girl, unless your gonna put an awning and inner tent up every trip the 3 or 4 berth is in my opinion the common sense choice.

we have a 2 berth and when the beds made up both hubby and me ,grandaughter aged 5 and three jack russells get a great nights sleep on the bed ,its the awning i think that makes it ,more space to live and the van to sleep in ,mind you if someone gave me a van with another bed for grandaughter id take it ,but no problems so far with it ,
