Hi Just do it,  Fully charge battery before storage, some members on here use solar chargers to keep battery topped up while in storage, they should be along shortly to give you some advice as to size of solar panel needed.

Wondering how secure one of these solar panels would be left outside connected to battery. Surprised I've not seen any in storage compound, maybe people just leave alarms off

Hi, there was a post on here some time ago, where the solar panel placed on roof of van, I assume the cables came through the sky light(if temporary measure), but think it was for all year round camping off site, and solar panels were fixed permanently to roof, had pictures showing how it was done, if that member or any other member sees your post, the may be able to help with a link to that post, meantime you could link up another battery, others will be able to give you more technical information on how do this properly, hope that helped.
