Hi, I'm new to caravanning and we just had our first long weekend away. When I emptied the black waste the slider on casette fell of and in to the drain - I did manage to retrieve it without to much hassle (or contamination) but is this normal, do I need to remove the slide cover before I empty or is there a problem. I've looked at various web sites and many have spare covers, is this an indication that they do just fall off?

I'd appreciate any help, thanks in advance

it could indicate a worn seal as this lid touches the rubber. only about £8 and easy to fit. after removing 8 screws the top come off,you can see where the rubber it set in.it has a set way round for fitting as there is a lug at one side.

The slider plate relies on the rubber lip seal to hold it in place when you retrieve the cassette holding tank from the caravan. It should also stay in place when you tip the cassette up to empty the waste contents as well so it seems that the lip seal requires replacing. It is quite an easy job to do actually as all you have to do is thoroughly clean the cassette tank first for hygeinic purposes then remove the slider plate from the top of the cassette (note which way the arrow is pointing). Undo the 8 securing cross head screws which hold the lip seal in place, remove the plate then prize the lip seal out as it is held in by a lip all round. Clean the lip thoroughly first then fit the new seal into place, refit the top plate (the correct way round with the arrow pointing the same way before dismantling) and then insert and tighten the 8 screws equally, so the tension is the same all round then finally fit the slider plate into the ribs either side. Check to see if the rubber is now holding the slider plate which it should. Job complete and should operate as normal.

Thanks Michael and Tango55, I replaced the seal today and the lid is a much better fit/ BTW I bought the seal locally for £10.95 , fitting instructions are included in the packet but just as you said and easy to do.

Thanks
