If you have no hot water at the kitchen sink, the wash basin and shower then it is probable that the pressure relief valve on the top of the hot water tank has malfunctioned. There is a small ball bearing inside the valve and after years of use it can get a bit rusty and stick thus stopping any water flowing through the hot water system. It does two jobs actually, it allows water to pass then returns to hold the pressure within the system too.

Hi Tony.  Welcome to UKCS.  Are you running the water heater on gas?  If the oven and the hot water are not working might it just be a case of no gas left in the cylinder?  Sometimes the most simple things are the things we look at last.  Is there any evidence of gas working elsewhere e.g. cooker rings, heater?

EDIT: Apologies.  Ignore above!!  Didn't read your last bit where you say the gas works elsewhere.  Couldn't be an empty gas cylinder then.

Sorry Tony.  I ammended my last reply - didn't take it all in, that the grill and hob were working - too much wine for lunch!!

Tango55's reply could account for the water but, it seems odd that the gas oven is not working too.  Hopefully someone might offer another suggestion.  Do you think it might be worth re-checking the oven?  It always takes a little time for the gas to come through to our oven, but the rings light almost straight away.  Might it be the automatic ignitor for the oven, or do you use a match?  To be honest, I'm clutching at straws.

Sorry I couldn't offer advice on the gas issue as I'm not an expert in this field at all. As DSB said you just need to check the obvious really and once ruled out it may need expert advice on your oven problem. Regarding the water I had a similar problem with the hot water but mine was running slow rather than stopping altogether but this was down down to the pressure switch which just needed adjusting to balance both the hot and cold flow.

Hi TONY098, as D S B and tango55 have said in their reply, you could check to see if oven has a stop valve that is not fully opened, failing that I think you need help from the gas experts on this form

Been away this last weekend and no hot water via electric so we heated up on gas and got the water hot. Thought that this was stupid so we emptied the tank and put the electric back on and the water heated up!!!

Today, winterising the van I put the water heater on electric and....no hot water...so switched off and waited about ten minutes and switched the heater back on and...Hot water....

Are tanks in caravans computerised because if the PC conks out I just go out and come back in again to get that working?

Any suggestions as to why it doesn't work on electric and then if you switch the electric heater off for ten minutes it then heats the water...

Phil

sounds like your element is playing up phil.possibly overheating and tripping out.when cold it resets itself.normaly a faulty element will blow the fuse.

Phil,I assume you had fully purged the water heater before turning on the electric element otherwise they will trip and will only reset after 15 mins or so. You sometimes have to fully disconnect the EHU

I have done this a couple of times when I left the water heater on from the last trip. I disconnected the EHU and them emptied the tank but left the switch one so when I went on the next break I connected the EHU first and the heater was on an tripped before I had chance to purge the water system. If you then leave it a bit it would reset. I hope this helps.

No. We always switch everything off when we leave  a site. Water heater switched off first and then we empty the tank via the yellow tap. On site we fill the tank and wait until that has filled before switching the electric water heater on.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. Just seems so odd that like a problem with your PC you switch off and go back in again!!!!
