hi, I am about to buy a sprite 390-2 (1993) for £2k which appears to be in very good condition. I have checked it out and there is no damp, floor is solid, and the outer skin is intact. there are no scratches or dents, the gas & electrics are all working, and the upholstery is in good shape. However I cannot find any info regarding this particular model. I have visited the swift site and am unable to locate the model number. Is there anyone out there who could enlighten me as to the towing qualities, and any general info of this particular caravan. Thanxs in anticipation

I think there is an owners club. I am sure we came across it when we were shopping for a 'van.

In 1993 they were still built in Newmarket by Sprite and it was not until later that the name was acquired by Swift. They were built on BPW chassis at that time and were in general quite reliable and well made. £2k sounds quite a lot of money for that age but if it is in good condition it could well be a better buy than a cheaper newer one.

The 1994 Alpine super Sprite was practical caravans caravan of the year. It was made by Sprite Leisure in Newmarket and was taken ove by Swift in December 1995. The 1994 Alpine had only minor detail changes to the 1993 model but the most striking is the change of the roof line at the rear, the earlier one ued to be described as a threepenny bit shape. They were/are a very nice van and from about 1990 were built on an Alko chassis. Very easy to tow and had a maximum laden weight of about 900kg. I ordered one in Feb 1994 for delivery at the end of March but when they put delivery back to August the dealer alowed me to chsnge the order to a Sprite Europa which was a very similar van but a slight upgrade.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
