We have a had a folding camper now for 6 years and have been wanting a caravan for ages (want to camp all year round). Never seen anything that has been either within our budget or that we have falling in love with to make us stretch our budget, up until now.

We saw a 550gl 2004 for sale with a local dealer on Sunday and we fell in love with it but guess what someone had just bought it over the phone.  I went home and felt like crying. It`s along time since I have got upset over anything material.

We are now on the hunt for one,we are saving like mad and dreaming of the cameo.

Anyone got one and what are your opinion of them and if you could offer me any advice it would be most appreciated.

Look at the swift conqueror range from that year or a few years newer and you'll probably find something very similar, our friends 2008 conqueror 630 seems to have anything you could want for and is a pleasant van.

It might be worth mentioning a little history, the 550 became the de-facto Bessacarr despite over the years growing nearer 6m in length it was always badged 550.

The 2004 model then is actually 585 or 19' 3", the 525 is what it says it is or 17' 3" in old money.

Since Swift bought the Bessacarr name in 1996, the model was based on the Conqueror but generally with 'wet' Alde central heating.

We had a bessacarr 525 until the wheel fell off and the van was written off. It was a fabulous caravan, it took us 4 months of looking to find the one that suited us. The build quality is fabulous on them. Sadly we couldn't find another 525 and now have a Lunar Delta, this too is a fab van but I still prefer the colour of wood and build on the Bessacarr. Good Luck
