I have just ordered some upholstery fabric to recover my cushions in plum and cream, has anyone done this? was it hard? I am  reasonable at sewing curtains and small scatter cushions.Just wondering should  undo the old ones to use as a pattern or cover over them. All advice / tips would be welcome.

Hi Stocky,

I would use the current ones as patterns - If you have more than one that is the same size - I would unpick one and make a paper template/pattern so you don't have to spend ages unpicking all of them.

I would start off with the easiest/ smallest first so you get the hang of it.

Good luck with it - post some pictures of the finished article if you can.

I recovered mine myself. I did what Velvet Kitten suggests and I used the old ones as a template. I bought new buttons covered by skiddaw upholstery. It does take time to do it yourself. I did mine over the winter, just done them a bit at a time. I'm happy with mine, the finish is fine but obviously not exactly that professional finish. I have a picture on my profile.

Any questions just ask.

I am still wondering whether to do mine - I have done all the curtains and blinds and really enjoyed doing them.

Even losing my temper seems funny now looking back - but when I look at the finished products - I think it was worth it.

I just have to find some fitting fabric.

It's just getting buttons recovered to match the fabric that will probably be the tricky bit for me.
