What do we have to do to protect our property? Our caravan was stored tucked away behind barns, not visible from the road, there is a difficult route through paddocks and gates to get to the road and at night there are two locked gates. There are also CCTV cameras. But the thieves somehow knew the van was there, drove down a nearby bridle way, across a nearby farm field, broke through the fence and took the van back the same way. The locks were ripped off and discarded. I doubt we'll see it again and if we do it will be trashed. Police, CRIS informed.
It is a Burstner C535TK 2005 model with bunk beds at the back. Loaded with the usual type of stuff (aquaroll, Cadac, oven microwave, bedding, etc). These people deserve every bad thing coming to them.
Can I be nosy and ask what type of hitchlock and wheelclamp was fitted? How did they remove them? I am just wondering if any devices really do prevent this.
I have only seen one that looks unbeatable but involves reoving the wheels and on my sloping drive is impractical.
It was a Bulldog wheelclamp and it was wrenched off, presumably with a crow bar, the hitch lock I don't know, but they wrenched that off too. These people are organised and know what they're doing. They must have recce'd the place beforehand and worked out how to get in and out.
I think if they want it, they'll get it. So many stories of theft devices just discarded - even to the point of hitches being removed.
Hi, sorry to hear this, can you email us the details please? Please include full details of the make / manufacturer, age, colour, CRIS / Reg number, VIN number, where stolen from, date stolen etc etc and any other information which would help identify it. We will then add it to the Stolen Caravan Database (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=108 ) and contact you for photos if you have them, to include with the listing.

Really sorry to hear this, i think this is every one's nightmare.Surprising what you can do with a battery operated metal cutter. Hope your insuance cough's up ok.

It didn't seem that they were cut off, but wrenched off. The only device that seems invulnerable is the jsb hublock. But it involves removing a wheel to fit. I am interested in how many vans are taken with alko secure locks or milenco mega clamps.

Anyone watch Dispatches last night?
Travellers sites are full of large continental vans!
The caravan was stolen from a friend's small-holding. The thieves closed a gate after they left to stop the donkeys escaping. Now who do we know who care about 4 legged equines....?????! If only the donkeys could talk.
Hi, I know its bolting the door etc. But a policeman friend told us, how easy it is to flip wheel clamps of with a scaffold bar flattend at the end. His recomendation was a self adisive number plate with your post code, in the middle of your van roof. Very unlikly to be seen by the thieves, but easy to spot on cctv or from every bridge.
