We've decided to buy a new Olympus 540-5 and have had what we think is a good price from a local dealer.
Is there any point waiting for the NEC show to maybe get a better deal? We dont want to buy from a dealer miles away but just wondered if the deal would be better at the NEC.
Anyone bought from the NEC able to give me any idea on what sort of a discount they were able to get and any extras chucked in.

Our last three vans have all been from the show. On our Pegasus we got a new mover, chest of drawers and a if I remember rightly £300 off and a very respectable trade in value.
See how many are offering the same van and use them against each other. I had a new awning thrown in with my van and two dealers were trying to out do each other it got embarrassing in the end but got a cracking deal.

One problem withe the NEC is that sometimes you can end up buying a van from the other end of the country. Also, would you have to wait longer for the van? I imagine most of them are orded by the retailers after the show. It might be the Spring before you get it? Just a thought. (I'd get Friday out the way first. )

When I've bought from the show the dealers have had a stock list and delivery date - so on a couple of occasions I've been able to choose the delivery date to a limited extent.
One difficulty may be warranty claims but I have generally bought from within an hour of home and the last two Baileys have been very well dealt with by a local workshop which is authorised for Bailey warranty work.

Although Bailey have the 'Transient Warranty' system, some dealers will pick and choose what they do, and that will depend on the cost.
just spent the evening stripping all our stuff out of the Ranger and weighing it all and being brutal with what we dont need to put in a new van (should have done this before we out it in I know). Surprised how it all adds up and something weigh more than you expect. We were ok with weight though phew! Shocked to find the mover weighs 37kgs!!!
We'll only buy from somewhere with a max driving distance of 1hr. Had three quotes from different Bailey dealers now, all within a couple of hundred pounds of each other.
Will wait and see if van goes on Friday then choose who to buy from.

Ah yes that reminds me when we 'almost' bought a van at the show, we went on the Friday and the dealer said that as orders where based on first come first served then we probably wouldn't have got our van until mid April (probably later). So if I was going to the show with the likelihood of buying I'd go on the first day to be nearer the front of the production line.
When we visited Glossop looking at Coachmans before we bought our van, the salesman told us to wait until the NEC as nothing they could offer us year round could match the deals they are allowed to do at the shows. Do any of your dealers attend the show, if so Im sure they would advise you as to whether your deal could be improved there. Our dealership for the servicing of our van don't go to the show but say that they regularly match deals on offer at the show.
I'm sure i got around £1500 off my coachman at the lawns show. However i had already sold my old van so it was a straight cash price with nothing to hide behind.
Bought from a dealer in yorkshire but use their onsite service so it's serviced and warranty items get sorted on my drive rather than hauling it up the motorway.
thanks for that advice Fiona, it had occured to me that by waiting til the NEC to order we might have to wait longer to get the new van. If we go it'll be on the Tuesday (1st day) as we can get in for £5 with the vouchers in the CC magazine.

It's a workshop not a dealership - they don't sell vans.

Same thing applies - it doesn't matter. It's a long story, but this happened with our replacement window. Many of the 2009 vans of all makes were effected by this. We tried two 'Transient Warranty' people locally - one dealer, and one 'workshop'. Neither would touch it because of the cost. The window manufacturers dealt with the matter directly. I was told by both companies that they had to pay for the window up-front themselves and were re-imbersed only when they sent the old window back. Whether this is fair or not, is one issue, but the result is that both these companies were not prepared to take on the responsibility. I have heard of other cases too, where the van had had to be takes back to the original dealer. The original dealer has a legal duty to sort out the problem - your contract is with them. Other Transient Warranty dealers/workshops can say no. Our local people were quite happy replacing a £60 tap when it started to leak, but drew a line with a £600 window. I think they had enough windows from their own customers to sort out.
On the other hand, servicing can be done at any Bailey approved place, for the purpose of keeping the warranty valid.
I'd definitely wait for the NEC. Before last years show I got the lowest price I could for the 2010 model that I'd been looking at. We went to the show and the show price we finally agreed on was £1,000 less that the price I'd previously got and this was for a 2011 brand new model with all the extras thrown in. All the dealerships have show prices so I'd get there early and spend the whole day comparing until you get the deal you want. There are also discounts on awnings etc.
when we've bought previous vans at the show the turnaround time has always been really long because of all the orders they take there so now we always buy before the show.
