Can anyone offer me any advise please ? I have a 1998 Compass Lynx, that has a small black damp patch under the seat on the battery side of the van, about 3 inches long. Any ideas please ? ty Rob.
I've got rain actually seeping in mine at times! (Gorilla Tape is good!)
Try to find out where the damp is coming from. Under the seat suggests condensation - could it be running down the windows at night and just behind the cushions and that way in?
Hate to say it but- has anyone/dog?kids? peed on the seat and it's soaked through? Could anyone have spilled anything?
3 inches doesn't sound like there's much wrong. Find out the cause so that you can stop it, then eradicate the damp by cleaning with Dettol mould and mildew remover, then dry thoroughly.
If the cause is something like the above, it won't come back once you've found out what's causing it, but it doesn't sound too serious!
Hi Rob01, Welcome to the forum. Have same van 2berth, not sure if your damp patch is on wall or seam at floor, or to the left of battery box, or from the seam at front/side. But you should buy a damp meter, a reasonable good one, and check to see if it is damp or just stain left from a leak, could be condensation, or at some time the water heater hose has had a leak, possible causes, 1. the water inlet housing( had one that was cracked did not show till water pump started to work) 2, loose fitting hoses, water heater, water inlet housing, 3,the seals round the water heater, water inlet, battery box(out side van), 4, awning rail seal needing replaced. Hope that helps.

John, thanks for that, the damp is on the ply board that runs in line with the battery box, the seals on the box all look ok, the wood batton is also wet that supports the ply board under the seat which is on the heater side of the van. thanks again John. rob.
Try and get a quote for the damage I had mine repaired last December when work is quiet and they did me a better price. Had damp in both rear ends at top ( can't think what they are called) and it cost me £700, sounds exspensive but cheaper than buying another caravan and is guaranteed for two years. All wood was replaced and totally dried out.
Get a hose or watering can and get a mate to look for water coming in inside of the van.The box can be taken out and resealed.This method can be used to trace all leaks on your van.
Hi Rob01, Are you able to post a picture of the area around the damp, try as jeff suggests, and if that is found to be the cause, then take off battery box door and re-seal, seal may look ok at first glance, but if any part of seal it not stuck well to body, the slightest gap will hold water and dirt, come winter any water or dirt will freeze and make gap bigger, pulling the seal away from the body, and when it reaches the screw(s) water will run along screw thread and into frame, I replaced my battery box seal two years ago(damaged door hinge) found the dirt had pulled seal away from body, and was almost at screw threads.

Hi Robo01, I have some photos of the rear of the battery box, from inside van, the battery box is a 3 in 1 box, Electric, Battery, Water. Yours should be the same.
Is this the same type of box as yours.

Hi Rob01, Robert had a look at pics of your box, it is the same as mine, looks like water coming in from battery box seal, the box will need to come out and be re-sealed, the water on top of the seat bench, could be coming from the window seals, side or front, check them they may be damaged, also check that the windows are on the second catch and are properly closed, lift up rubber window seals along the window inside the van check for damp(check with a damp meter), also check the corner seams between the side window and front windows. Look at Wizards site link on his post. “My Damp Repair Website” you will find that very informative and helpful.
Hi wizard, Robert’s van same as mine, only rails are above windows and the awning rails/ skirt rail at floor level, look at my gallery, not to clear but what looks like rail each side of windows and above wheel arch are the folded panels, with small dotted decals, same on battery box side of van.
