Collecting our new caravan and want to start on a good footing as we want to keep it for many years.
What does everyone think of using a caravan cover? Either a full cover or a top cover. At least either would save the roof going green which we find tricky to clean at home.
Are there any problems with keeping moisture in etc?
Any advice appreciated as to yes or no and why
There are very good arguments for covering the van provided that you use a breathable, non scratch kind of cover such as a Pro Tec cover.
There are very good arguments for not covering the van.
It's down to a personal choice. We cover ours.
We put a damp Buster bucket in our van over winter with the crystals to collect the mositure and pop back every now and again to empty the water out.
There will be those who tell you that it is a waste of time using such crystals.
You pay your money and you take your choice. It's your baby so look after it as best you can

lots for and against, this year we have got a cover after having some bad winters.protecting the windows from scratches will be the hard thing to do i think.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We cover ours , it's not covered that long in winter as our season is long , however I think as long as you can open it up occasionally to give it an airing and use crystal dehumidifier like phil I think they are good , no green roof scratched windows or bird poop , we are really happy with it.
But there will be others who say don't , as they say the choice is yours :)

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
WE COVER OURS WITH A BREATHABLE COVER LOVELY TO HAVE A NICE CLEAN VAN AFTER THE WINTER. WE ALSO NOW USE A TOWING FRONT COVER AFTER PICKING UP A FEW STONE CHIPS.
Definitely not unless under trees. Too much hassle getting it on and off. Condensation under the cover (even with breathable). Gave ours away and van still looks as good as it did 4 years ago.
We don't use a cover, partly because we've never got around to buying one. We also never really know when we'll we needing the van so don't really like the idea of covering and uncovering. Strictly speaking, although we take the necessary precautions over the winter months, the longest period in between times using the van is about 9 weeks. I don't know, but I reckon I would be one of those who would create problems/cause damage by putting on and taking off such a cover. I would probably end up by breaking the TV aerial or something or scratching the van with the cover. Then ther's the issue of 'letting the van breathe etc.
A question for those of you who use covers. How often do you use the cover? Do you cover the van all the time when not in use, or just over the winter, or other?
I have never covered any of my caravans and they've all been 100% damp free.
Caravans are designed to stand out in the open with fixed open vents to allow them to breathe.
I know that covering them can prevent grime and algae forming on the roof and black streaks down the sides, but covers have been known to loosen over a period of time, and whilst not becoming completely detached do move about scratching the paintwork.
If it was available to me, I would certainly go for undercover storage but nothing would persuade me to use a cover.
