Hi all, being new to caravanning just wondered which is best to use to pick up a signal for the tv. Had my first outting with the caravan last week and set up the new tv / dvd at home so knew it worked but struggled to get a signal once on site using the tv ariel attached on a pole which the previous owners sold with the van. Wasn't overly bothered about getting a signal as the kids had the dvd's on at any spare moment just thought for future ref might be an idea to get it set up properly. So would people recommend me just getting a signal finder for angling my current tv ariel or a satelittle system or can anyone recommend anything i dont know about or give me any ideas.
satellite for me every time, the picture quality on site can not be beaten.an old sky box and a cheap dish and once set up it can be forgotten.if you have young children they can find a few programs too.cbbc ect.
We use our status 530 which is ok sometimes, but tbh you get a few trees and it's rubbish , so mostley we use a dish our old sat box and take our sky card with us, and provided you can find the satellite ( which is 99% of the time with a signal finder) you get good viewing, just remember if you use a free standing tripod dish like ours, peg it down we didn't once and one windy day that dish took off like a rocket

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
We use the aerial on the caravan (not technical don't know what it's called but a round one!) and we have a vision plus booster unit fitted, on the occasional site that we know we can't get a signal we use an easy find satellite system.
FAO Murano : Does your Sky card from your box at home work fully on your van Sky box. I was told once that the card was configured to only work with one box!!! Have I been given duff information?? I bought one of those £25 Sky cards, what a waste that is, as far as I can see the only benefit!!! is that you get Channel 5.
FAO Ishipley : I bought a Satfinder and only used it once. I have found that a cheap compass, if required, is all that I need. I use the box Signal Test to get the fine adjustment, it takes about a couple of minutes.
We used a sat dish with our last van and it is quick to find a signal. With the directional status aerial on our new van it is quicker still. We are not that bothered about tv as we usually take some DVDs. We find our DVD recorder is useful for recording stuff for the caravan.
Used aldi portable system for 4 years now never failed easy set up 5 mins, but if only on site for overnight stop use status directional which gives perfect reception unlike the old flying saucer type which were a total waste of space.I had 7 vans with these fitted and not one was any use.the sat gives more range of stations.
Tried everything to get TV through Status and pole aerial and eventually gave in and bought a dish. never looked back. Absolutely brilliant. Usually able to get linked up in less than 2 minutes.
Well it seems like it's definately a sat dish for me then. Was just a bit worried it might be hard to set up. Thanks everyone now the job of finding one.
One way to save time if you are getting a satellite system is to get push fit connectors. They work fine and will help in getting your set up time below this 2 minute mark.
We have both, sat dishes are ok until there's a tree in the way then your goosed! We take a normal freeview tv, sat dish and box, if the freeview doesn't work through the status aerial I go for the sat dish, which can be a pain!

You can swap between boxes, but you won't get premium channels, being sports and movies. I just have the family pack, so it works for me.
