Most sites seem to have a rule saying you must lift your groundsheet daily if it's not a breathable one - never seen anyone doing this or a warden ever enforcing that rule, however...
That is why I have 2 breathable ones (one isn't big enough) - can't remember the brand but they were about £25 each from a local dealers shop. They are very thin and not much good on stony ground/hardstandings but quick and easy to fold and store and they are supposedly machine-washable (not tried that yet).
I quite fancy something a bit more substantial but never got round to looking, so I'll be interested to see what others suggest...

I got one of these, Nice under foot, breathable which is a requirement at some sites. I put mine on the washing line, hose it down to clean it and let it dry before storing. If the campsite does not stipulate breathable, I put a cheap tarpaulin under it to keep it dry and clean.
Have you seen the interlocking mats.They are square and a hard foam type material.I would guess they are about 2ftx2ft.You can add as many as you want/need.They have holes all over them which keeps down weight and lets the grass breathe.They are excellent for making a path from the awning entrance to the caravan door.No more dirty shoes in the van.Around £10 for four.

I've always liked the Kampa Easitread. They seem to last for ever, never ad any problem with dirt sticking to it, and we've been really lucky with water/mud. I've got two - one for the full awning, one for the lightweight porch.

We also use grass. There's quite a lot of it about in the countryside.
We prefer not to use a flooring unless it is very very wet in which case our woven breathable is next to useless anyway as the mud comes through the holes. A tarp is best in those conditions if we can get away with it.
its grass for us as well tried breathable and ordinary ground sheets decided they are a waste of time most of the pitches we have been on have had well maintained grass it seemed pointless covering it up as far as lifting ground sheets after a week how do campers get on with sewn in ground sheets
I agree with the grass people if it is good and dry but the 'Kampa' is great under foot if it is damp and good for young children. I put a tarp under it. If you keep the groundsheet dry it can be packed away without needing to clean it. Fold the tarp dirty side inwards. Grass does not need cleaning, folding and storing away and is enviromently friendly. It is useful to have something outside the camper/ caravan door to wipe your feet on. We use a cheap tarp under our awning annex inner tent, if we use it, so we can pack the tent away without needing to clean it. Summary. If tarps are not allowed I use grass or if we have young kids the 'Kampa'. I only use tarps for weekends so I don't spoil the grass. Tents spoil the grass anyway.
