We have a 1991 elddis hurricane xl and done a bit of searching on internet to find out the awning size and it looks like we need an awning 831 cm but how do I know which awning is this size because some say size 7,8,9 etc etc and some awning's say something like 820 to 850 etc can someone explain which I should go for???
Different manufacturers use different sizing when they say 7, 8, 9 so look on their websites for the size in cms or ask the seller to confirm the size in cms. If you need an 831 then look for something like 825-850.
The reason why manufacturers state the lower and a higher measurements are because when they are manufactured they can only work to limits with a tolerance of centimetres and not millimetres therefore the finished awning size will be somewhere around mid sizes. In other words, if the size is 820 to 850 cms. then the final size would be in the region of 832 cms. but there has to be a tolerance of probably + / - 10 cms. But like Tunstallwood said, different manufacturers operate to different sized catagories so a Bradcot size 10 may be a different size for Dorema or Ventura etc. so you need to focus on the awning rail size rather than the manufacturers own sizes so you obtain the correct awning for your caravan. Once you have the awning rail size then you can search each individual manufacturers website to determine their corresponding size number.
