Does anyone know of any lighter weight twin axle caravans (if they exist)? Many thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but probably better than making a new similar one.
My vectra can pull 1.5t but the dealer i spoke to said he would only sell a twin axle to someone with a 4x4.
What's the facts please?

The kerbweight of your car is equally important as your cars towing capacity , Any caravan you buy should not have a MPTLM (max loaded weight) more than your cars kerbweight and ideally should be no more than 85% of that figure .
I doubt if any newer twin axles will be light enough to to tow safely with any vectra and to tow at or above 100% is not advisable

it depends on the size of the twin axle , some are shorter than a single axle , my friend has a Bailey T/A which is lighter than our Lunar T/A

My Bailey TA has a MPTLM of 1550Kgs

My Car has a kerbweight of 1710Kgs and max towing weight of 1600Kgs

That's a 90% match (assuming the van is loaded to the max) - which is fine by me

The car in question is a Saab 9-3 convertible and tows the van just fine. I can't notice any appreciable difference if i tow with the Sportage instead.

Oh, and my last caravan was a Lunar Quasar 615 and that is even lighter than the Bailey (MPTLM of 1400kgs i think)

That's what i was after, thanks. We have an Abbey Vogue single axle which is heavier than some twins.
Mind you, we are in negotiation with Mercedes to swap our coupe for a diesel saloon so hopefully that will have more grunt.
