We have recent suffered an arson attack in which our beloved caravan was burnt completely out, along with extensive damage to the front of our house and garage We were due to go away so it was fully loaded with everything
We have had a loss adjuster out to assess the damage and have now received their offer The problem is that they have quoted the Glass's guide price, despite me sending them examples of what is available of the same year, make, berths etc, and unfortunately I cannot buy a caravan of the same year, make, berths at that guide price Now, obviously I am going to reject this offer but will they up the offer to what the sum insured is do you think? It just makes me cross that although they are paying out the maximum for equipment and personal effects (although it won't cover everything we lost but we have to accept that), they are offering nowhere near the maximum insured for the caravan itself, which also had a motor mover.

We are insured with Caravan Guard and unfortunately they haven't included the mover in with the caravan replacement cost - I'm just hoping they haven't included it as part of the equipment as in my opinion it should be part of fixtures and fittings
For insurance purposes the mover is equipment - anything that the caravan does not normally come with from the factory. I understand from my insurers that when folks are totting up the value of their equipment. for insurance purposes. they often forget about movers and so they are not covered!!!! Just somehting for anyone renewing their insurance to consider.

Having been in a similar situation regarding insurance I totally feel for you. Phil on our thread gave us some invaluable advice which I used with our insurance and they upped it from £6000 to £6400, the glass price was £6995. In the end we didn't want to wait months for it to get sorted out and decided to accept that figure. We had insured our caravan for £9000 and to replace it cost around about that figure but to an insurance company that is irrelevent. We were even advised by them to buy privately as it would be cheaper! We wanted to buy from a dealer so as to get a warranty, it's a lot of money to fork out without one.
I really hope you get it sorted soon and can get back to caravanning.
Hi Nichel, the insurance company have upped their offer to what we gave them examples of (price wise). I did have to do quite a strongly worded letter, quoting from their own policy documents and also some information from the insurance ombudsman website. We too insured our caravan for £9000 which was quite a bit more than we will be getting, but at least we now know we can replace what we had. The biggest mistake we made was with the motor mover. I assumed as it was on when we bought it that it would be treated as part of the fixtures and fittings, but apparently it is equipment and so with everything else that we lost in the van, we got the maximum insured sum but that is obviously not enough to replace it all. They did originally offer us the glass's guide price but when we refused this and sent the letter, the insurance company (eventually) upped their game and gave us what we wanted for replacement thank goodness!
Our old caravan wreckage has now been cleared and is mainly in a skip awaiting collection. It was so disheartening to come round the corner and see the burnt out wreck against the house so I feel that we have made some progress at least. Unfortunately the arsonist is still at large and setting fires still in the local area. I hope he gets caught before someone is killed in a house fire....... !
