Mybe it has been exhausted, but im sure that we would all apreciate any info if one of the many manufacturers have developed a caravan friendly unit/maps.

All of them are caravan friendly  If you read the instructionsas you can set them for HGV which then avoids B roads.  I also fell i9nto this trap until I decided to read the help menu.  Alternatively just program it to avoid B roads.

Use your Sat Nav in conjunction with a map and common sense.

Two trips this year and both have been a nightmare being sent up lanes that are not suitable for caravans.

Use this site you can tell it you will be towing. Then check the directions against your sat nav

With TomTom you can set up itinerary routes, which you plan . As I am sure some of you are aware, some sites advise you   not to approach from certain directions with a particular sized vehicle. With TomTom you can preplan this using way points in itinerary planning.

We have a Garmin 510 satnav. Last year it took us on some really wierd routes. We have just updated the maps with the 2008 versions and it now seems to be much better. The routes it is picking are much more logical. Using it on Truck setting seems to be ok for the caravan as where ever possible it now avoids minor roads. I would still check the route with a map though!

I dont like people coming back with replies of 'this is exhausted' - sorry you got a hostile reply.

Anyway, yes there is - well sort of and cathymac has touched on it - the Michelin via range of satnavs (which are very nice) have caravans as an option. Im getting one when my old tomtom dies. It has been reviewed by one of the caravan mags and it was ok. You can try it out on some routes you know by going to : http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm - it comes later on to tweak it when you get the route.

Hope that helps. There are some anti sat nav people around the forums - the same folk who dont like kids on sites and think EHU is a luxury. I wouldnt be without sat nav.

The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.

I use my satnav in conjuction with a road atlas; usually doing a pre-journey comparison.  The satnav then operates more as a memory jogger, rather than IT being in total charge of the route I take.  If I deviate from the route, the satnav automatically adjusts itself.

When pulling the caravan, I select the "LORRY" menu.

The literature that came with the satnav was not very comprehensive.  I went on line and downloaded the English version of the instructions.  These filled 34 A4 size pages.

Bertie.
