Thats what our van was called today by a relative, when i explained its been out once and had to cancel our week and also lost a weekend due to various circumstances, but to no avail.
"youve spent all that money and its sitting in a storage yard gathering moss blah blah blah"
dont car its ours its paid for and we love it.we know its underused but we just cant part with it
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
we call my mum and dads that as it gets used 3 times a year and they always go to the same place, but each to their own.
we hate ours being stood for longer than a month as we just love getting away but I know its difficult for some, Could never imagine selling it though even if we did rarely use it.

isnt jealousy jeff trust me on that they own a far nicer and newer van than ours.however theyre in the fortunate position to be retired and can use it at their leisure

It yours it dosnt owe you anything , if it sat there for five years and never moved so what, it's all yours and there will be times when it get used, and if you get one weekend away in 18 months it's worth it :)

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Yes, it's great being retired and being able to use the van a lot, but for most, that is not an option.
We bought our last van in 1998 and used it as much as holidays permitted....about 6 weeks per year. Over 9 seasons we had great holidays, both here and abroad.
When we sold it in 2008, purchase price minus sale price was about £8000 for 9 years use, plus servicing, insurance, and of course holiday costs.
Not that bad I think, and we could holiday as we wished.
Now we are away 4-5 months each year, we are "quids in".
After giving us loyal service and some great holidays and memories ours has been stood for nearly two years now due largely to work commitments and bad weather when we could have gone away.It had a stint as a site hut for the in laws while they were building their new house and I doubt if it will see a camp site this year. We don't pay storage, nor have we insured it for the time it has been stood. We did think maybe to sell it but we had it as an absolute bargain and would never find another like for like for the price we paid so it is going nowhere.Maybe next year it will see some action. Our friends sold their van because they were paying storage, insurance, asset sat there unused and bought a large tent instead. They are away in Cornwall this week,in a rented cottage.....
He is right. But it is up to you what you do with your money and up to him to not be so ignorant, giving his arrogant opinion on other peoples lives. A lot of things could be seen as useless expense - all humans do it. Just think of the money that goes into gardens for example. His mouth should stay ornamental.

Caravanning is an expensive way to holiday whether you use it much or not, when you add up the initial price of the van plus all the stuff we fill it with, plus the necessities like water hog, waste master, electric lead, awning etc etc etc plus (for some) storage, insurance, extra fuel costs when towing and that's all before we pay a site fee which in a lot of cases can be as much as a B&b per night.
BUT it's a way of holidaying we enjoy whether it's used 1 week or 5 months a year.

I get the feeling by reading this your outlaws are looking at your finacial status,in other words your needing to spend your money on other things rather than a caravan ? Families are funny, when my father in law started to get on my back i just told him he should get a real job...that shut him up.
My caravan sits at the end of my garden, have taken it out 3 times this year and might just manage another. Apart from that my kids (and me) love sleeping in it out in the garden, so I get my moneys worth.
Hi fife-bloke, Could explain to them that your are not in a position to go on a trip when you feel like it, unless some kindly relation was to offer to pay for your unpaid days off work, so the van wont be an ornament, Or you could ask them to lend you their van and you could sell your over priced ornament, No guesses what answer would be.
