This may be a silly question but hopefully someone can answer it and but our mind at ease:
Our new Bailey Ranger (470/4) is a 2007 model. It has a full walk in shower in the rear washroom which is made up of a plastic door on one side of the cubicle and then a solid sheet of plastic on two sides. The rear wall of the shower (i,e the back wall of the van) doesn't have this plastic covering and appears to be just the normal wall finish as per the rest of the bathroom. While it won't be directly in the spray of the shower we assume it will get some splashing on it when in use and wondered if this is anything we need to be careful of getting wet? I guess we are just used to our shower at home where all the walls are covered!
If you look at picture 6 on this ad it show's the same shower:
Dont worry ,the shower will not be powerful enough to get anywhere near that wall . always be sure to squeegu down and wipe with a microfiber cloth after using and you will be fine .
Hi you won't have a problem with the shower it's one of the best fitted to any van we use ours all the time when away the rear wall can get a bit wet but we just wipe it all down after use the same as we do with the showers at home
Thanks Phil. The other half was getting worried that if we got it wet it would ruin the van. I will tell her to buy a decent cloth to wipe it down with each day! On average how much water does one quick shower use? I just wonder if we could get 2 showers out of one 40L Aquaroll or is the main problem the hot water tank capacity of 10L?
On a more general note have you any top tips for a new 470 owner as I see you also have one. ?
Have you ever stayed at a CL / CS site and just run it off the battery? We wondered how long you could expect it to last. At the moment we have a new 85AH fitted but appreciate we would be best getting a 110 in the future. Someone has suggested fitting a charger in our car boot so we could charge one battery when driving around and then change it over with the van battery every few days. We plan to stay on some C&C main sites to start with but fancy the idea of going "off grid" in the future
The trick to showering is to minimise water use. As you have pointed out, you only have 10 litres of hot water.
Before showering switch on both gas and electric water heating for a wee while. This will reheat the water more quickly. If the temperature is adjustable, turn it up full.
Once in the shower, wet yourself all over then turn off the water while soaping up. Turn water on again to rinse.
Remember to turn off gas and reset to normal temperature (if you want) afterwards.
That way you should get 2 showers out of a 40 litre Aquaroll.
hi we find one tank of hot water is plenty for two good showers using the tried and tested system of quick wet down turn off shower good soap all over then rinse off we very rarely use site facilities as we prefer our own i use a 50 liter water hog which i top up with a smaller aqaroll
we never use ehu unless its included in the price we have a 40 watt solar panel that i put on the roof through the roof light this charges a 110 amp battery your 85 amp one should be ok though , charging 2 batteries seems to work well for some , we managed 18 days on the battery with no problems without charging it before we had the solar panel
i am a bit of a pariah because i have serviced our van myself from new therefore no warranty after the first 12 months that said the only issues i have had so far were a broken door lock (fixed for £20 ) and a small leak in the corner of the window over the sink/cooker the rubber had pulled away that was fixed in a few mins. it tows very well and i cant really fault it. hope this helps phil
we also have ranger 470/4 2007 and are on our second outing we have a waterhog for our fresh water, when full my wife then daughter then myself all get a good shower out of this, turning taps off whilst lathering up and wiping all walls down when done also have skylight open for ventilation
