I know a leisure battery is preferable but as I have the chance of a 'free' new car battery would this suffice to power a Mover, It will be used on a flat surface and for no more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time, I also only use EHUs. thanks folks, John

A leisure battery would be more favourable in my opinion, due to discharge rates etc., however there would be no harm it trying the 'freebie' to assess.
Ref use of EHU on site, you have considered presumably that the battery runs your pump, 12v lighting etc.
i put a freebie 4x4 car battery on my caravan and it is still on now 2 yrs later never had a problem yes a leisure one will last longer and perform better under constant drain ie mover but at the cost of £0 your battery will do
There is a lot of time spend discussing this....I have seen articles written by qualified folk who say that a "lead acid battery is a lead acid battery" and for differing applications different labels are applied......until you spend hundreds of pounds on a battery they are mostly the same.
Use the free one and see how you get on, then report back please.

Good Post!
I have a 90A battery on my truck with which I can run a winch motor for 10 - 15 minutes or so (unloaded) and still start the engine after.
So your battery should run a couple of windscreen wiper motors ermmmm...... motor movers with out a problem
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
if you use an EHU, it will be fine, the only time you would have a problem is if you didn't use EHU, it just wouldnt last.
but seeing as you use EHU, the charger will charge it fine, I had a car battery (and only a little on eat that) on my van most of last year when my leisure went U/S and had no problems.
There will be absolutely no problem using a car battery instead of a leisure battery. It just is not designed for deep discharge such as use in a caravan so there fore may not last as long a leisure battery. as yours is a freebie what the heck
