My radio/cd in the van is a really good sony. My problem is we like to sit out side or in the awning and to listen to it properly in the awning can be unbearable in inside the van. Is there anyway I can get speakers which would be portable and could be used in the awning and outside.

I also feel the same caravan designers please take note. I love the radio but can't here it in the awning or out side. I do position chairs next to the side window and can hear it a little. Sitting in the awning.
you could look at using a stereo speaker with wires passed out of a window.
I presume the cd/radio is the same that comes in a car so will have front and rear connections inside could be front and outside could be rear a simple use of the fade will mean you dont have to have it on inside while sitting outside (or vicaversa) meaning you can listen at a comfy level and not disturbing the neighbours.
that would pass as a tempory measure for a more permanant fix search for an outside speaker and fit it to botom of caravan with wires fixed permantly.
i think i agree here... just because someone wants t pay music doesnt always mean they want it loud. im sure by having a speaker or 2 closer means you wont need it booming out just to hear it..
but on the other note we all must respect our tempory neighbours and give them the peice n quiet there expecting on there week weekend break
If we have the radio on, I sometimes use the radio facility on my smart phone which uses the earphone cable as an aerial then choose "activate speakers" on the phone and put it on the awning table. I have it so quiet that you can't hear it unless you are next to it and the van radio can be kept low too. I appreciate some may not have a phone with a radio built in, but expect many do but may have never used it.
I have to admit to having reservations about wiring up a system for the awning. We occasionally use music in the awning, but it is vary, very rare. OH takes a very small speaker where an Ipod fits in the top. This is still loud for the awning IMHO and even using the CD/radio player in the van at a fairly low level is an adequate volume for the awning, so as not to offend neighbours. In any case we use this Ipod dock mainly in the caravan. A more direct sound souce from the awning can cause noise polution for those around. The only time we would consider using music in the awning is if we were pitched completely away from our nearest neighbours. In practice, for us, this happens very rarely.
Taste in music can vary considerably and I can visualize a situation, and have experienced this, where a number units each wanting to play their music, slightly edging the volume up in order to overcome the volume of a neighbours music etc. Volume edging can be annoying especially for the person in the middle who actually doesn't want to listen to any music at the time, and has to but up with the resulting cacophony of sound. Even with three of us in one caravan, we have different tastes and we frequently do not wish to hear other peoples choices.
I won't even go into many other aspects, like whether folk actually listen to the music of just want something played as a background 'hum'. Personally, if I listen to music as a specific activity, I want to do it in silence without the distraction of other things.
There are sites who positively ban radios because of noise polution. In my opinion it is far better for the listening experience of the individual and for the comfort of others, for the individual to use an Ipod or other personal listening device with headphone or earphones. One then has a portable device to listen to music anywhere and at anytime. My daughter's ipod is only a few centimeters square and many youngsters and those who are a little older use these devices regularly as they walk about doing other things. I do think this is the way to go. When we go to the beach, from time to time, the three of us can be seen sitting there plugged in to ipods listening to what we want without disrupting others.
I could go on at much greater length about this, dealing with live music and music as a corporate/social activity etc., but from someone who is a professional musician of many years experience, this is my take on this very touchy subject. After saying all that, my opinion is no more important/ valid than anyone elses.
An interesting post - question posed was "how" but "should I" seems to have overtaken it.
My initial reaction was with LDKO but OP does not say it will be loud and late. Even so, I have no wish to listen to anyone's quiet & early music and sound travels well on site.
We all have to respect each other on site - me as a neighborour & OP's right to play music.
I would have to put up with OP,s reasonable desire to play quiet music. OP would also have to have consideration for my desire to hear the bird song.
These considerations may have to be tempered according to the type of site.
I don't mind as long as it's not loud and obtrusive , the last weekend we went away the van next to us the old boy had a guitar and he sat outside in the evening gently strumming away, now I know this would annoy alot of people understandably,But I play guitar so no worries to me, and this guy was good and it was all good stuff he played easy listening and only played for 30 mind , and have to say I really enjoyed it.

I REALLY hate to hear other peoples music ,even if its not loud ! I love to hear the sound of birds over head ,crickets in the fields ,stream bubbling past ,not other people 'take' on what passes for music ,no mater what it is :(
i hate to hear loud music as well , but there are lots of other noises on site as well , the grass cutter going up and down / the combine harvester going past , the thud thud of footballs being bounced for the sake of it , dogs barking , fat people starting there cars up at 6am to drive around to the toilet block , you would think the walk would do them good , but thats life
isnt the simple answer to the original question just spend a couple of quid for a portable radio put it on table in awning at a reasonable volume and all is well, i agree with kettle on to some respect when we were at mablethorpe (haven site) couldnt hear our tv in van for some tenters with a ghetto blaster at full pelt for near a fortnight you dont mind people enjoying themselves but surely that applies to us that dont want loud crap music as well
