We used to go from Kirkham to Thirsk regularly many years ago..... towing with a... wait for it..... Morris Ital estate and a CI Sprite Musketeer...... I said it was a few years ago!

That was our route and had no problems. Watch out for motorbikes though, I recall my folks scraping one up off the tarmac as there's a few twists and turns and the route does attract bikers.

Gareth, a Morris Ital?! Designed by Pineforie. You were lucky, my Dad had a Marina 1.8 Estate in harvest gold (an attempt by BL to hide the rust). The only good thing was the engine, the same fitted to his MGB Roadster 1964 which he still owns and drives (carefully); not concourse condition but pride and joy non the less.

A 1.7HL nonetheless! In biege! Was thick with rust when bought, resprayed by the garage, thick with rust again within weeks haha!

I think Morris must have decided to put a different engine in the Ital. It was crap!

The MGB sounds gorgeous though. Memories!

Usually the A59 route is fine (we use it regularly) however the road is closed at the moment between Bolton Abbey and  Blubberhouses. Was closed on 5th June for five weeks, diversions via Ilkley and Otley.

Alternatively, the M62. Yes it's around 20 miles further, but definitely quicker. Even more so with the above diversion...

Gareth, the MGB might sound gorgeous, and I certainly wouldn't want to see it go, but you feel like you're driving a rollerskate, syncromesh on 2nd gear has gone, my dad leaves the windows open so it can dry out, and stops the paint blooming by rubbing it down with meths! However it is in British Racing Green with spoked wheels, and the family love it! Just not sure what van it can tow!

British Racing Green with spoked wheels...two good reasons to keep it!

I keep dreaming of a classic (midlife crisis lol) but like my modern driving comfort too much I think!

Apologies Trunnion for the thread hijack.....

Thanks for the input, I heard Blubberhouses may be closed so I intend to do the M62, A1, its a longer route but I think it will be better on fuel. I know Blubberhouses quite well as my brother was in the RAF, at Leeming for years, but never towed a caravan over.I used to have a Morris Marina, it was,nt a bad car go me to work & back, I went working in Saudi Arabia hence the logo, sold the marina & bought a 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE, which I still have, but its a bit thirsty 3litre V6 but goes well!
