I have just bought some calor gas as my bottle had ran out. So I said to the shopkeeper
"exchange bottle of propane 6kg please"
"Certainly that will be £23 please"
"Crikey thats expensive I paid £18.50 last time"
"Oh yes calor has put the price up"
"Where is your exchange bottle"
"I have left it by the cage"
"Ohh its the light weight one that is £25.71 then please"
I cant believe how much Gas has gone up.
Come back Dick Turpin.
And why should you pay more to fill a calor lite when its the same amount of gas 6kg.
OK rant over.
------------- A barman is just a pharmacist
with a limited inventory
Its a complete rip off. I bought a Calor Lite for £22.00 at the beginning of the year from a caravan club site. A lot of people I know are now using the adaptors off ebay to refill the cylinders themselves. Its only £6-£7 per refill that way from an autogas pump.
It's like everything now a days , we need it so they charge what they like ( it is a rip off )
------------- "I'm a fool for my dogs"
Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Look at how all fuel prices have gone up. The idea that LPG is a "by-product" is nonsense - it's a very valuable product that, along with everything else that comes out of crude oil, is sold for a profit. You pay up or you do without
------------- * You never know where you're going 'til you get there...
OH nearly had a heart attack when he went for a refill two days ago. The price is terrible. Only saving grace is that we don't use much Gas. as we are always on EHU and so use a steamer for the veg, or slow cooker, and the fridge.
------------- Don't know where I'm going but will be happy when I get there.
You can refilled using this adapter at any petrol station that sells LPG / Autogas. At least, you can in theory. Most places just won't turn the pump on for you to fill a gas cylinder, specially those that also supply gas cylinders. It would be better if the filler nozzle were fitted to the car like an autogas filler and connected to the bottle inside the car.
Incidentally this has come up on other forums. The overwhelming response is don't do it, refilling gas bottles is too dangerous. Certainly an overfilled bottle is dangerous.
I have this adaptor none of the multi national eg bp shell and the like will let you fill these bottles but the small ones do in fact the place i go the guy does it for me i only ever put in 10 ltrs not 11 as it says on adaptor (6 kgs bottle) make sure bottle is empty and change your bottle every four fills or so
Though there is a safety issue as the gas bottles are checked when they are exchanged and by refilling yourself you are missing this safety check.
Personally I would rather save money on other things and pay for the gas from Calor. By by- passing this you are probably putting the cost up for the rest of us that pay a bit each time we replace a cylinder towards its checks and ultimate replacement
