Hi,

The main element on our standard size Dometic fridge has died, so we can't use the fridge on EHU. We're off to France at the weekend and I can't get anyone to come fix it before then.

So if we use the fridge on gas all week, it's not going to use up all our gas (about 6kg of our 10kg bottle left) in one week is it? We'll only be using the gas for the cooker otherwise (no BBQ, shouldn't need it for heating)...

We've got BPLite which I don't think is very common in France (if available at all)...

6kg will normally last me about 10 days off ehu and that includes heating water for shower and washing up etc as well as cooking and a big fridge/freezer. If you have decent ehu take an electric kettle and something like a George Foreman Grill and that will save you quite a bit of gas.

I found running my campervan fridge 24/7 & cooking as well that a Campingaz 907 cylinder 2.75kg of gas lasted 7-8 days max.

Your 6kg may last a fortnight. You can't buy Calor in France.

WARNING!

If the weather is warm, the fridge will empty your gas bottle in no time flat.

2 consecutive years I was baffled how I came to run out of gas (Calor) in North Spain, within the first week.

Turns out, in warm weather, I can empty a full bottle into the fridge. I'd get your electric element fixed, or take a spare fridge, assuming you're epxecting warm weather.

Strax

And oh yes, I did get grief for having no gas for the rest of the holidays, loads of grief.

The average caravan fridges use 250 - 270gms of gas per 24hrs..working on the theory that your fridge is an economical model then it would use 1kg of gas in 4days obviously as somebody on here has eluded to it will use more gas in hotter weather.

if you run out do what the locals do, buy a local bottle and regulator to fit it is a quarter of the cost of gas here (no surprise there then). Bring the bottle back home with you. Then when you go again next year take the French bottle again. And if your generous when your back in the UK share it with a friend that is also going to France. If you only use that bottle over there when it runs out you can easily exchange it.
