Hi, For all the wild campers,Caravaners, motorhomes out there, Caravan friend was telling me to-day, that it was on the News on Monday, that there is a ban on wild camping on the East side shores of Loch Lommond around Rowerdennan, and there are now designated camping areas at £5 per person, turns out that the reason given for the ban and designated camping areas, was that the amount of rubbish that was being left by the campers, and amount of open campfires, had turned the beauty spots into rubbish tips. the areas are being patroled and fines for unauthorized camping, So any one visiting the area should be aware of the new situation.

I saw this first hand a couple of years ago just South of Braemar. Visible from the main road too and right by the river side which had large signs saying that the river was the towns water supply. Rubbish scattered everywhere and you can guess what the river was used for. As the OP has stated the minority,of sod you jack I'm alright people, spoil it for the majority.
I can`t understand how they are happy to camp amongst rubbish , what are their homes and gardens like ? Mind you , we have enough people like these in our village . There is a chip shop opposite a public loo and sitting area where the same youths sit frequently and strew their rubbish from the chip shop and the two local supermarkets all around the available rubbish bins then walk into the park 100 yards away to drink whatever they have and dump the bottles and cans close to the bins there too . Remind these people that it would be good to look after their village and all you get is a mouthful . Is there a workable answer to litter dumpers ? It`s not that we have no police foot patrols in villages to remind kids littering is punishable is it ??? Do the parents do the same and the kids follow ?
We had a similar problem in our village until one evening I told a group of youths who I saw walking away from a pile of rubbish on our local park to go back and clear it up. There is no excuse since there are plenty of bins nearby. Fortunately the kids in my area still seem to have a bit of respect for adults and a couple went back and picked it up.
I walk the dog down there quite often so they know I will keep on at them if they keep littering and I would certainly call the local Bobby if I got any lip from them...and they don't want him hounding them that's for sure. We still get the odd can or bottle but nowhere near as bad it was. If nobody tells them then they just carry on regardless.
I suspect that they just do not get the education and guidance on social issues that we used to get from both school and parents. They go to school and are taught the basic lessons then go home to find their parents working, at the pub, or stuck in front of the telly and they get little or no education there.
One of the punishments when I was at school was to go round the playground picking up rubbish...so you soon learned not to drop rubbish in the playground in the first place
Hi, totaly agree with all the above, as stated 2008 authorities put up simmilar signs, but had to remove them as they were against the law, thougth these areas are cleaned daily/weekly,and the actions of more than a few, dumping their rubbish, and leaving burrning fire embers, only lends weight to the arguments of the land owners to stop people freely romming on land in Scotland ( these people do not respect the land or areas they visit,or for that matter the people that visit the areas after them ) and with the cost to local authoritis for the clean up,you can see their point in wanting to introducing the ban. unfortunately we will all lose out if their actions continue, its the thin end of the wedge to stop any one wild camping any were in Scotland, its a sad fact that the overseas visitors have more respect for our country, than some of us uk residents.

We went to Glenmore Campsite (near Aviemore) recently. One day as it was raining heavily we went for a drive along the beautiful stretch where they filmed `Monarch Of The Glen' - pulled over into a lay-by to take some pics only to find an old sofa dumped in amongst the bushes .
As well as that we came upon 2 or 3 places of stunning beauty where people had obviously been wild camping and making fires in very dodgy places & just left their rubbish behind - including cans bottles plastic bags & even a couple of umbrellas, a bowsaw & a crosscut saw. So the ba$t*rd$ had obviously been hacking at trees as well.
I can't adequately express how angry & sad it makes me - & what I would like to do / say to people who treat the countryside like this isn't printable on here...
Hi La-la, totaly understand where your comming from, what i dont understand is people have a right to wild camp for free, then abuse that by dumping rubbish,it can only be a matter of time till a law is passed, to stop the wild camping all over Scotland, even areas where no dumping is being done,as land owners will want to protect their lands, from the would be dumpers moving onto their land, because they have been banned elsewhere, maybe education through the media, patrols, heavy fines, or shop the dumpers, will help stamp out the practice.

I am afraid the rubbish is everywhere. I walk & cycle and its a job to get away from it. Who's doing it? a large percentage of the population, that's who. Who pays - everyone. It costs money to clear it up.
Along the town centre riverbank here the "friends of the river" often have a litter pick. They pick up loads of stuff but unfortunately they often leave behind their signs advertising the event!
Hi, when in Germany a number of years ago,all the places i visited you could eat your dinner of the streets, and if any one dropped any litter,a passer by would tell them to pick it up, there was a £20 on the spot fine,if you had no money ,you were taken to police station till some one came and paid it.
