How to you fellow caravanner's use you water heater?
Do you leave it on 24/7 when you are on your pitch or do you swith on 20/30 mins before you want to use it.
I was thinking to leave it on as it is thermostatically controlled on swithches on and off.
A typical example for myself is this weekend, we will be leaving the caravan at 12 midday and returning 11.00pm, would that be a waste of gas for that amount of time?
no difference electric or gas apart from i think gas heats quicker.the heater will only get to 70 degs and turn off and on to maintain temperature.we leave ours on 24/7 unless the grandchildren are sleeping over the heater when they are with us.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I suspect leaving it on 24/7 would use more gas but not much more than heating it a few times a day. It would certainly be better for the heater if it were left on. Repeated heating and cooling is not going to make for ideal conditions. Also during the heating and cooling stages, the temperature is at points where bacteria breed. Better from a hygeine point to be hot or cold as much as possible and avoid being warm.

Leaving on all day is a waste of gas especially if you are out.It doesn't take all that long to heat up even for a shower.
not proved but do not agree because after heating a full tank you are maintaining the temperature once heated and it will only light for a few minutes each time.to heat a cold tank full could take over one hour. gary would know possibly.

Depends on the use, if your out all day then possibly less gas will be used if you switch it off.
However, the heater left on 24/7 uses very little gas so the saving, if any, will be small.
As for heating from cold, using gas and electric together, you will be lucky to get it up to full heat in less than 35 minutes, on gas only this will increase to possibly an hour, on electric only it will take even longer.
Of course all depends on how cold the water is to start with, the above times are for heating water fresh from the mains tap, if allowed to warm up in the aquaroll times will be somewhat shorter
Heck ! I'm going to try out ours on the leccy only today as I don't actually know if it's even working at all. Glad I saw this, I know not to expect hot water in less than about an hour at any rate.
With the price of gas nowadays I don't think I'll bother heating the water with gas though !
How old is your caravan La-La. Our 1992 caravan water heater was never intended to run on electric, it was not designed that way. Yours could be the same.
It's either 1994 or 1995 - it's one of the last Eccles ones made in Newmarket. I never thought of that - the fridge is 3-way & it has blown-air heating (very fancy) bu the heating only seems to run on gas so you may well be right .... sh*t !
